Many people have recently had good experience with this one. I'm considering it. Which did you go with 25% or 35% and you got their shift **** right?

I used the 35% - if you are going short, you may as well go as short as you can.

I used the "factory" ****. It is a custom leather covered one from Gerardo at Down South Vettes. I like the factory **** anyway....

My neighbor showed me his short shifter in his RS4 and it looked like it worked ok but was a bit 'loose'. I took him for my shake-down ride and all he could say was WOW!

I like the stock **** too, John.

If you use the stock **** with this shifter, does it RAISE the shifter up some? I've heard that it is different if you use the gripper ****, but I wouldn't want to do that. I just really want the stock **** and stock shifter height (or a bit lower), so this may not work in my situation...

Any comments on the new 'cup' and other updates that George is now providing?

THANKS

George has redone the factory holder to be right at factory height. Mine is fine - maybe a tic higher Higher gives better leverage. The Cup he uses is very nice and seems to have zero slop. You no longer use the factory cup on the ball.

How much is a "tic" higher? Is it extremely noticable?

Also does the shifter have any positive stop bolts? The website to order it has no literature on it that I can find.

I didn't measure it, but here is a pic:

There are 5 bolts that you use: 4 to secure the shifter and one to secure the **** carrier to the shifter. There are no adjustable bolts that I am aware of or were in the instructions. Total install time was about 1.5 hours - I am slow and meticulous and had two phone calls during the process.

A before pic:

Hmm....I take it I didn't get this "cup" since I had to reuse the stock one. Could you tell me what's different about this cup compared to the stock one. Thanks

yeah, if 'a tic higher' is less then I've seen in some other posters' MGW pics, then that's great news! Wonder if the 25% raises the shifter even LESS??

One other question - The MGW already has a reputation for adding precision to the shifts (theoretically making all shifts 'easier', or at least easier to find), but do you feel that it ADDS a lot of extra shift EFFORT, as well? Again, I assume the 25% would add less extra effort...

The action of my stock '08 shifter seems smooth, but has enough effort already, and certainly doesn't shift as quickly as other (European) cars I am used to...

Thanks again...

There were complaints with aftermarket shifters rattling under hard acceleration. Fixes included silicone in the bottom of the factory cup, which it seems most reused.

George, being the perfectionist that he is, didn't like this solution so he machined a cup that fit well and wouldn't rattle. Mine came with the new cup.

Ahhh ok.... well since mine hasn't rattled yet, I'll save myself the trouble of taking everything out again.

There is more effort to go to first, fifth and reverse - but it doesn't bother me. Where it counts - 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 it is simply pull, push, pull no drama with the shift at all.

Nice upgrade John. I'm going to get one too but the 25%. I just need to get off my lazy butt and order it.
