Default ehtanol in the C6

I was filling up at my usual HESS station when I noticed a new sticker that says CONTAINS 10% EHTANOL OR LESS. As soon as I saw that I stopped the pump at 8 gallons. I had about 4 gallons in the tank to mix with it and havent noticed any hesitation or "pinging". I have an 06, is this stuff ok to keep using?

I can't find a pump without it. I think it is now or will be a federal requirement. I was told all cars should be fine.

My 06 A6, I use it in Illinois when visiting the grandson's. Been told should not be a problem (10%) nor harmful. We shall see in a 100,000 miles...79000 to go.

All cars have been designed to use 10% ethanol for at least 30 years by federal mandate. It won't hurt your car. You will get lower mileage because it contains less energy per gallon. You will get lower performance for the same reason. You will ultimately pay more if you consider the tax breaks ethanol gets to make it competitive with gasoline. The more you use, the more you will contribute to the increase in the cost of food because you are burning grain that cattle would otherwise eat increasing the cost to raise them. You are also contributing to soil erosion because the price of grain increasing causes farmers to till land that is less suitable for agriculture.

On the other hand, you will make an environmentalist feel like they have personally saved the world from imminent destruction.

BTW, I did some research and Top Tier gas (the only thing gas I will use) has 10% ethanol as one of the requirements. I HATE ethanol but I hate cheap gas even more.

That's all we have been getting in Houston for several years. You will notice a small drop in gas mileage.

I only see that sticker on the "regular" grade.

I farm for a living and have to disagree with this.In my no-till farming I haven't tilled an acre for over 5 years thus improving soil eroison and improving water quality. My production has increased due to no-till and our cattle still have plenty to eat with ample supplies for both feed and ethanol.

In Illinois (outside of the Peoples Republic of Chicago) I can always find 1 or 2 stations in a town that have straight gas. If you have a tank at home most bulk distributors will deliver straight gas.

10% Ethanol will not harm our engine but I prefer alcohol in my beer not my gas.

They need to bring back the old Chevron "Green Gas" from the old days...104 Octane.

Ample production for YOUR cattle maybe, but how can you explain the recent raise in price for corn and any product that corn was used in. Such as beef, since after all cows eat corn. Raise in prices for dairy products like milk and cheese, and a raise in price for any product which uses corn syrup which is in almost half of the products in the supermarket.

Ethanol is a stupid idea given other alternatives.

If the you put ethanol in the vette, it would be drinking and driving. The vette that is.......If they give your vette a breathalizer test it might have to be impounded! Honestly, I hope they do not decrease engine performance just for the sake of fuel economy, or emissions safety. It really is an efficient car compared to many others. I don't hear Ferrari worrying about this stuff.....

Default ethanol

No it is not good to use it, evaporates water quicker while retaining it, and rots seals, hoses and other ancillary stuff - especially in a high performance engine. I refuse to use it if possible and I even think there is a negative statement in your owners manual. I have high performance outboards as well and it is even more desctructive to them because of being two strokes.....

They started putting it in our gas here in northern Wisconsin three weeks ago. I had been using it in SE Wisc. for many years because it was mandated. Thank God, only regular and mid-range has the ethonol blend up here. Premium has not. Gas milelage will fall. Sometimes I see a 20% drop in MPG. I just hate to use it in my boats. I know Mercury outboard doesn't want us to use it unless nothing else is available. Farmers are loving this, PLANTING MORE CORN......

New study just stated that within 30 years, ethonol will cause more pollution and green house gases than regular gasoline. All the new emission laws are BS, all the praise for ethonol is BS, all the hype over hybrids is BS. It's all political and finacially driven and the end product is we get screwed.

It wasn't very "green", it used tetra-ethyl lead to get the octane that high.
