Default Radar Question

Hello Everyone!

I did search about which radar is the best. HOWEVER, I am looking for the best wireless radar setup for the C6. Also, are there any flush covers so that it doesn't sit ugly in the vette.

Any comments would be great, since I'm trying to buy one by this weekend or next.

Thanks,

Zeus

You might want to try posting this in the audio/electronics section. You may get more replies there.

Try to stay away from battery operated "wireless" systems. They do not pick up signals as well and can run out of battery power when you least expect. I run a V1, with a visor mount from great lakes trophies and power it via an 8" invisicord tapped into my rearview mirror. Excellent set-up and radar locator! Just my .02

I would suggest going with the stealth K40 with LED's.......they can position front and rear (2) LED's on the steering column, looks perfect and works great.......they install a sensor in the front and rear bumper so nothing is noticeable

Good luck, happy to send pics if you want.

I've always heard bad things about battery-powered devices. My recommendation is to get a solid visor mount and an Invisicord. I got mine here:
http://www.vettemods.com/products.htm

The whole setup is solid and hard to notice. I even leave it in place when I go to the track!

My detector is a Beltronics. 3rd one I own, best bang for the buck IMHO.

Go with the Valentine 1 and the invisicord. Mine is mounted on the bottom of the mirror and you don't notice it until the radar comes at you. The battery units don't work we

Valentine 1 the best way to go. It's saved me many times! Ecklers and a few other aftermarket sites sell a mirror mount bracket for it.

Asking which detector to get is like asking which oil is best. We're in the realms of politics and religion!

Here are some facts that everyone pretty much agrees with:
- battery-powered sucks
- Beltronics and Escort are good and almost identical
- Valentine is good and most expensive
- Either of the 3 can be mounted with a nice visor or mirror mount and an Invisicord

Visor vs mirror mount is also a big debate and a matter of personal preference.

How's this for building consensus?

Escort Passport . . .not the best range since it's cordless, but decent coverage, cordless, clean install . . .

And if you decide to use a corded model, I haven't drunk from the V1 kool-aid . . .Escort 9500 is my preference. But to each his own.

I have a V1, and it has never failed me. Expensive, yes, but if it saves you from one ticket, it's paid for itself.

I use the invisacord, and mount the V1 with the suction cup/windshield bracket that comes with the unit. Never had it fall off of the windshield, and it's barely noticiable from the outside. Although the rearview mirror mount would be cool, because it's less noticable, and probably a more solid mount.

The other way I've heard to get power is tapping the seat warmer fuse, assuming you have the LT3 option.

Battery powered detectors give poor protection. The reason is the circuits eat power, so they cycle between 'sleep' and 'awake' to conserve power. It's not cool to face a trap during a 'sleep' mode!

V1 is the best. Do a search for convenient wiring solutions. There are several easy and virtually invisible choices.

Don't waste your money on a battery powered detector!

Without getting into technical stuff, I highly recommend the V1 if you are a no-kidding driving enthusiast. Having the arrows is a huge benefit that is often looked at as just a snazzy option. I have owned multiple detectors at the same time. I started just transferring the V1 from car to car rather than use the other ones. Not having the extra information was that important to me. Maybe this stems from my job and being used to having a lot of things to monitor…I don’t know, but without knowing where the radar source is coming from I feel naked.

Don't waste your $. Drive sensibly. Many with radar detectors get nailed anyway. False sense or security.

Great Lakes Trophies mount if you decide on the V-1 or Passport. Better service, and way lower shipping cost.

I must say that after going to the vettemods website, their visor mount looks very nice!
