Hey guys and gals.Need your opinions on fuel blending for my 07 vette.I am currently using shell v power gas rated at 91 octane and have detected detonation at heavy throttle in 3rd.I have a performance shop close by which sells sunoco supreme race fuel rated at 110 octane, and was thinking of blending the two.According to my blending chart if I add about 3 gallon of race fuel to a tank I should reach about 94 octane .This will take care of the detonation. Plus nothing smells better than race gas I already blend fuel for my other toy which is a 79 camaro with a 468 cu.in blown motor using about 10 lbs of boost.I run about 50/50 in this on the street and 100% when I want to play serious and don't have a problem.
As these two cars are obviously vastly different as far as technology is concerned, your thoughts on this would be very welcome.

We only have 91 octane here in Arizona so I blend with 100 octane, but only when I go to the track.
Be careful, I believe the Sunoco 110 is leaded race fuel which will foul your Cats. The Sunoco 100 is non-lead. If you want 94, you'll need 5 gallons of 100 octane with every 10 gallons of 91.
Are you sure your having detonation? I live in MD and all we have here is 91 octane and I have never experienced it. The car is tuned to run on 91 octane fuel from the factory. The only way that you would be able to know if the car is pulling spark timing is with a scan tool. If you are feeling and/or hearing detonation, there could be a problem with the car and I would take it to the dealer to check it out.
I'd say if there's something wrong with your car's running, if it's running poorly and you can't trace it to more than detonation and octane, I'd take it to the dealer. I'd do that before I start fooling with the mixing of octanes.
If you always get 91 octane at the same Shell station, I would first try another brand of 91 octane gasoline at another station before I took the car in for service. It's possible that there has been a "blending" error at that station.
If you continue to have this noise with Exxon, Mobil or Chevron, then take it in and let the techs tell you what's causing the noise...they will thorougly enjoy taking your Vette out to see if they can make it detonate in third gear.

I couldn't hear an audible ping (but that could be because of my hearing). But I was getting quite a bit of knock retard that went away when I blended with 100 octane gas.
