Default Priority Start --- what's the downside?

As a new vette owner, i am really amazed how many people have had DBS with the C6. I know a lot of people just use a charger/tender on their battery- but on the surface that doesn't seem to be the best solution for my scenario.

The Priority Start seems to be a neat idea, but I keep wondering why people would deal with a charger/tender if putting this $90 gizzmo under the hood solves the problem and you don't need to think about it.

So my question is this, when the battery discharges and the priority start "stops" that drain, what's the downside?

Does the keyfob still work?
What about radio and other presets, are they erased?
Any other gotchas?

If not, i need to order one!

Thanks!

After the Priority Start disconnects the battery you will need to use your key to gain access to the manual door release. Then you push in the cigarette lighter, which tells the PS to reconnect. Of course, at that point the cars alarm starts up, so have your fob ready.

You should be able to start the car as normal. You'll probably have to reindex your windows. Your seat and radio presets are retained.

I had several occasions of the battery going dead (It appeared to be from a "nucleus Ipod Adapter I installed) so I got a Priority Start. It has saved me twice so far. The upside is that it works exactly as advertised, if it operates, all you have to do is push in the cigarette lighter and it re-connects the battery. The other way to re-connect is to disconnect the ground lead from the Priority Start and then reinstall it. The downside is that the fob will not open the car, you have to use the hidden hatch key and then operate the manual door opener in the rear (I have a coupe). You also have to re-index the windows and once I had to reset the mirrors and drivers seat memory. All things considered though the Priority Start has been well worth the money.

Ive been using it since my 2005 with 400 miles on it died overnight.... works like a charm. Since then I installed it in my 2007, it has save me a couple of times. The 2007 seems to only "die" when I leave it for a couple of weks or so, in that case when in the garage I leave the windows open, reach in and hit the cigarette lighter and off I go, it really prolongs the life of a battery...

I put one on my "06 after the third dead battery. Downside is if you or a mechanic are using Acc power for just a short period of time it shuts down the battery. I have not put it on my '07 and may not.

Default Been there

The other night I was in the garage putzing around and I wanted to check something out in my 05 coupe. I opened the car door , got in,saw what I wanted to see and tried the door to get out. The door would not open. I then realized I didn't have my FOB. ( how did I open the door without the FOB ???)

Anyhoo, I pulled the lever for manual release by the seat, door opened and alarm went off. I raced inside to get the FOB,almost killing myself slipping on the ice, went back out and made sure I securred every thing and locked up the car. I checked the battery tender and it said it was charging, as I would expect.

Two days later tender says "check battery". I did and it was dead as a doornail. I took the battery out put it on the charger and it wouldn't charge. I talked to the local battery guru, he checked it out and pronounced the battery . Then it was off to Advanced Auto and puchase of a new Optima yellow top. Yellow top installed and every thing works . Would Priority start have saved me?

I have had both on the BlueCoupe since about August of 2005, immediately after the one and only DBS incident. The battery tender keeps the battery healthy, and the priority start unit protects me when I'm away from home. Peace of mind plus I still have the oem battery.
