These are minor, annoyances and coming from the guy who is getting ready to order a new coupe.
1) if you order the Bose/Nav package, there is NO ipod adaptor.
you only get a single disk cd player. DUH.
2) GM is still married to OnStar. No bluetooth?
Why does GM insist on making these either/or choices?
Even in a car that is really about performance, no gizmo's, these are two simple conveniences that should be simple to offer.
Is this changing for '09??
Putting a Garmin or Tom-Tom in a new Corvette is way too cheesey...
Has anybody heard of any aftermarket ipod adapters or bluetooth setups?
The corvette is a great line, but it's parent company is a dinosaur in serious financial trouble. GM is also managing way to many divisions than they can handle. So they kill them off or serverly water down the already spread-to-thin stream of ideas rather than set the divisions free. So they're dreadful in terms of innovation and design, while wanting top dollar for their product.
Packaging up their overpriced options is the only way they'll get your money. Want a steering wheel?...well you've got to get the $1700 "driving package" Want to turn left too? Well that's $3200 "explorer package."

I was looking at the GM NAV and was not to my liking. The 6 Disc in-dash changer was a nice option that has a auxilary jack for MP3 players. I plan to upgrade the HU to the Kenwood DNX7100 which has about everything you need and comes in a lot cheaper than the GM NAV. Plus, it is a 6.95" screen and uses Garmin GUI. I believe On Star is standard in all Vettes and you can leave it unactived, if you choose. I hear BT is a possibility for 2009.

There is a factory dealer installed option of a 6-cd changer available. I'd look into a Garmin Nuvi which has Bluetooth and forget the installed GM nav. There has been a lot of discussion on the Nuvi, which you can find using the search function. Everybody that has one seems to like it.

Can someone explain why you have to have an IPod connection? Why not just burn all your IPod stuff to an MP3 CD? You can easily get 10 hours on a single CD and then just stick another in. 10 MP3 discs gives 100 hours of music or 500 hours of voice (my preference). If you get the aftermarket 6 disc changer you are limited to less than 8 hours of anything before you have to stop and dig into the cubie in the back.

Because everything is on my iPod - why waste time/resources burning a wretched MP3 disk? If GM grew up and joined the Real World it wouldn't be an issue. Many cars offer full iPod control in their audio systems.
Clearly its a marketing thing and demonstrates that GM deserves its long slow death.

Agreed. My base unit has an ipod adapter/auxilary input. It works well but it's just an analog input that allows the IPod or other MP3 player to play through the head unit.
I don't use it because I like to see the info on artist/song title which the unit displays quite nicely from the CD data. I've gone the MP3/CD route and it's quick and easy.
Probably the real issue is not GM at all but Apple and their ****, non open music format. Most IPod users would have to convert all their music to MP3 to burn the disc and that's a pain. Shame on Apple, not GM!!

I am first on the waiting list in my area for a Kenwood DNX 8120. It is new for 08 and includes Bluetooth. I have been dissapointed with the audio in my last two Vette's. I decided this time I was doing something about it.

Do you know if there will be an adapter so you can utilize the steering wheel controls?
Frankly, the audio quality is bad enough with the blose paper speakers.
Running down the sampling quality is a source of more distortion.
It's a little nitpicky, yes. The answer is custom installation, which kind of ruins the concept of optioning out a new car.......................
Seriously, GM needs to catch up to the rest of the world.
Thanks, the 2 Kenwood solutions seem to be the best so far.
I'm going to order the car, but it's a pity to have to "cut up" a new car to get a quality electronic setup.

I think you are jumping to conclusions. BMW has had an ipod adapter for years. GM actually already has the adapter for some of their lesser vehicles i.e. the Cobalt. I also don't understand the comment about burning the music to a disc. The whole idea behind connecting the ipod is to avoid using any disc.

Lets see, at 10hrs per disc I would need to burn 33.6 discs. Yeah that sounds alot better than simply hooking up my iPod with one wire. I already spent hrs converting my CDs to MP3s and putting them on my iPod and I really don't feel like backtracking and producing more CD's out of my MP3's.

With an IPOD in the picture, CD's are kinda like 33 1/3 LP. What I don't really understand is that GM has other NAV units which have an IPOD interface and/or at least an aux-input. Oh well, I continue to use the LockPick until the fabled PAL is released
