Default DSV E-brake boot/BRAKE light

I installed my new DSV ebrake boot and handle last night. The install went smoothly, no problems there. The only thing is with the increased mass of the leather boot and the increased resistance, the handle doesn't want to stay all the way in the down position. It is being pulled slightly up maybe 1/8" and is on the edge of triggering the BRAKE light on the instrument cluster.

Anyone else experience this? I have moved the boot around in different positions and worked the slack around in different places but it doesn't seem to make a difference either way. Will the leather stretch out enough over the next several uses to eliminate this?

Yep, mine did the same thing. It just needs to break in so to speak. It will get better with use and time. Mine took a few weeks for the leather to soften up and stretch.

Maybe if you put a weight of some kind (book, piece of wood??) on it when not driving, it would speed up the process.

Mine took a little longer because I painted the e-brake button while it was all apart.

I'll snap a couple of pics today after work. I went with the subtle theme. Ebony leather with titanium stitching to match my 2008 console and seats.

I also applied some leather conditioner to help soften the leather. I will probably lay something over it as AgDriller suggested since I'm not driving the car much yet due to intermittent crappy weather.

Thanks again guys.

Mine is doing this too, so it's good news that it will get better with time.

I just did ebony with cashmere stitching for the ebrake and shift boots. Very high quality, and look fantastic!

Mind did the same thing. Put leather cond. on it and park in the sun for a day. Work e brake up and down while holding boot next to handle and at rear latching point. Will speed up the leather stretching process.

Mine was doing that too and after the boot broke in, no more brake light issues.

Yep, just give it some time and it will work great. Mine has no resistance in its travel anymore.
