I'm 68, live and drive in Southern California traffic and have the Z51 option with MZ6 transmission. I love every shift and would never own a Corvette with an auto trans.

As said....No one who has a MN6 wishes they had and auto, but....There are many with auto's who wish they had a MN6.... They are both vettes, one is just a little more personal than the other, yes I'm talking about the MN6....

Let me lay the truth on you-if you are thinking about geting the manual-just get it. Trust me on this one-it will always sit in the back of your mind if you don't get the manual

This is a personal preference, of course!

Even my wife loves the STICK!

If you are going to be driving in a lot of stop and go traffic, maybe auto, but then why get a vette?

You know what I have!

The auto with a tune makes the manual a real SLUSH BOX......You will be looking at the autos tail lights before you even hit 3 gear....plus I can drink my coffee, comfortable in stop and go traffic,in any hilly area with traffic lights and still blow the manual away from any red light. And if I want to get a little creative or downshift to hear my Borlas rumble I can always go to paddle shift,,kind of a no brainer,,,just my opinion..

Default I Must Disagree

Several posters have said that no one with a manual would prefer an automatic. I have a 2005 manual convertible and grew up driving manuals. I have had many manuals in my 56 years. Today, I would prefer a 6sp automatic Corvette - and no I am not just getting old. The manual in the Corvette is notchy and the new automatics are very impressive. I recommend that he try both in typical driving conditions.

I love my A6 paddles, but he is simply going to have to drive both, and come to a decision that HE is going to have to live with for many years.........

I am one of those "non-exsistent" people who bought an M6 but wish I had an auto... so it really just depends on your preference. For me...my car will soon be my daily driver and I'm in traffic (albeit not LA traffic haha) every day etc. so I sometimes wish I bought an auto. I have a feeling this will grow as the car becomes my DD. I've thought about it enough that I have considered posting a WTT ad. If it was going to be a weekend fun/track car I would probably choose a 6spd. I think it's definately subjective so as others have said drive them both and then consider what you are going to use the car for most.

As everyone has said, the choice is yours.

My Vettes have always been manuals and I love to drive. However, my wife would like me to get an auto. She can drive the MZ6, just prefers automatic.

I just wish that the vette came with a real paddle shift. Finger tip control, left downshift, right upshift. Just like F1 or Ferrari or even my Lexus. Instead of a paddle I prefer to call the Corvette auto a "thumble".

No doubt you already have some driving experience. With that in mind, it is strictly your preference.

Default This forum made me buy a manual

I owned a 2006 automatic coupe when I first joined this forum. I was 19 at the time and had never driven a manual transmission car before. After reading all these manual vs auto threads I started to feel like I was missing out not being able to "row through the gears". I ended up buying an 08 MN6 coupe and loved it!, I then sold that car to buy the 08 Z06 I got last week.

Like the Majority of the people that have already posted...I think you should do whatever YOU want to do. Personally, I would not want a Corvette with an automatic but if that is what you really want, YOURE paying for it so make yourself happy.

Oh yeah...and one more thing. There is a reason why the ZO6 only comes in a Manual.

I'm with Les. I had a C5 with auto and I knew that I should have gotten the manual then. Sold it and went with MZ6 (Z51) on my '07. Again, it's a personal thing as stated before. My Vette is a weekend car so I'm rarely in traffic. You really are "driving" the car with a manual and I would never go with auto in a Vette or the like again (personal opinion).

Alot of people are mentioning driving in heavy traffic. The clutch is so light on the C6, it isn't even an issue. It's not like shifting gears is laborous. Get the manual. All sports cars should be manuals.

couldn't have said it better myself. and if you are in HEAVY traffic it is okay to put the car in nuetral and remove your foot off the clutch.....matter of fact, your throw out bearing will thank you for it

One good thing about the manual, the 'torque management' is controled via your right foot and left foot, not the computer.
