From reading the gigantic shop manual it seems that the C-6 can be set up to work a cellular phone just like it is set up for On Star communication. Does anyone know anything about this?
I went the easy/ cheap route. Bought a Motorola T305 for less than a hundred dollars. Charge the battery, pair it to your phone, then hang it on your visor and you're done... I have voice dialing on my phone, works perfectly with this. Best part, it can be moved from car to car. Keep forgetting to turn off the Verizon(car) phone..haven't needed it since I bought this...(cell phone also on Verizon.) I don't even use the Jawbone BT headset I bought for Christmas... sitting on the kitchen counter for at least a month and a half.

I gave my T305 away. It works fine but that blue light really bothered me at night, and could not see it in daylight. No AC charger either. With 100-150' range, you have to turn it off every time you get out of the car, or you won't be able to hear calls on your phone if you are within that range.Went back to my trusty Plantronics 640 BT headset.
I recently switched to Verizon (for reasons unrelated to Onstar) and plan on adding my C6 to the plan once the snow melts. For $10 a month it just seems like the best solution.

What are the terms of this $10 a month plan... how much time do you get? Is this adding another phone on to an existing plan?
No, you really can't do that unless you want to completely move (port) that number to the car permanently and get a new number for your phone. The OnStar number must be unique.
But, what you CAN do is add the car to your Verizon account with a new (or ported) number as another 'Family Share Plan' number for an additional $10/month. Then, when you are going to be in the car, you manually forward calls destined for your phone's number to the car's number.
That way, nobody has to know your car's unique number, and you will still get your incoming calls in the car. You just have to remember to un-forward calls when you get out of the car. It's a little inconvenient, and probably only useful for longer trips. But at least you get to share your Verizon minutes across ALL of your Family Share Plan-based phones, and only have one bill to pay.
I put that kit in my vette about a month ago. The hardest part, was trying to fit all the harnesses and the small amp and transmitter behind the console. The unit works great and just gives me another reason to get rid of Onstar.

Hope that makes sense...
Thanks! Yes it does make sense. I will contact Verizon.
My thinking is when driving should you realy be on the phone???? I dont use my cell when I am driving....not even hands free...it distracts too much from operating the 3200 pound bullett I am driving.

Flip side is you may have to change/ extend your contract! I was due for a new(free every two years) cell phone last August, after adding the car phone/ changing plan, I have to wait until October of this year for a free phone upgrade. Since I added the T305, I never use the car phone... No caller I.D., you can't use it to check your voice mail because there is no way to enter numbers/ password. I've seen other(imports) that have a key pad in the car. Of course there is no key pay for GM cars... missed the boat again!
