I had a Hurst shifter installed in my '07 coupe with the black "cue ball" shifter ****. I don't see how you can fasten the leather boot to the bottom of the **** to hold it up. Any suggestions on how to secure the boot to the top of the shifter underneath the ****.

I have the white shift **** and it has a rib on the bottom that you fit the elastic at the top of the boot over. Might be a tight fit, but keep working with it and it will go over the rib.
You can't that is why I developed my custom OEM fit unit to hold up the boot The best I could suggest it to wrap electrical tape around the shaft just under the ****, make enought layers to create a tight fit for the boot
What was your method to get the gear engraving to line up perfectly?
PS - I think the C6 Hurst shifter has the exact same specs as the stock shifter, to include the torx screw-hole. Only difference is that the shaft is also threaded for screw-on applications.
