2008 base coupe, A6. Set to automatically lock when I walk away from car, which it does and also set to unlock with the key fob when I get near her. However, sometimes it seems not to unlock so that I may enter the car. Happened twice yesterday, but not all the time. Anybody have thoughts as to why this is happening "on occasion"? Otherwise car has been perfect, nothing has gone wrong with 3,600 miles. Daily driver. Am I getting too overconfident that this car will not break? Have been bragging to friends about the quality. Perhaps I jinxed her.
The signal from the FOB can be blocked. I had an iPod nanno in my pocket that was on top of the fob (i.e. the fob was sandwiched between the iPod and my leg, blocking the fob RF). I was already in the car (cleaning or installing something). When I pressed the ignition button, the DIC read "No FOBs detected". I pulled the nanno out of my pocket and everything worked fine.
It is a very well built car. You can continue to be proud of it. When I first got mine I took my die-hard German/Lexus friends for a ride. They hadn't been in a new GM product for years. They were impressed. I expected them to begrudgingly admit that it was a well done car, but they openly praised it without any prodding. If you knew them, you would understand, they were impressed.

No, there's no way you can set it to unlock when you get near it. You have to put your hand in the door handle and press on the membrane before it will unlock. Otherwise, you have to press the unlock button on the fob. I'm sure you meant that you unlock it when you get near by pressing the button on the fob.
There's been a couple of times in my small garage, I'll have to push the door switch (outside) more than once. I'm wondering if its simply the receiver needs a moment to receive and decode before allowing it to open and walking in quickly and pushing the button isn't quite enough time.
