Default Oil Consumption

I have a 2005 C6 bought last Sept. with only 7500 miles on it. Have put on 3000 mi. since then and have been checking the oil, and the dipstick still reads OK....(basically full) I just do regular driving; mixed variety of trips, no racing...my question is, do any other members experience this oil (non)consumption ?? Also, the DIC says there is still lots of oil life left, but when do most of you change it ?? Thanks in advance.

so . . .you're concerned because it doesn't use oil ?

No worries, mate . .just enjoy it !

The DIC indicates oil life . . .there are a few members that religiously change it a 3k miles . . .a handful at 5k miles because it's synthetic and last longer . . .and then there are those that either follow (or ignore) the oil life remaining message.

In other words, everyone pretty much does what they choose and use whatever the car indicates as a guideline. [obligatory caution:] In theory, you should follow the owner/service manual for best results.

Not using oil between oil changes is a good thing. I don't use any but up to one quart in 2000 miles is normal according to GM.

Doesn't seem odd to me. Regular mellow driving should not burn oil between regular intervals of changing the oil. The only time I saw a little oil burning on mine was during a 4 day road trip where I pounded on the car pretty hard for a lot of miles.

Yep, makes sense. That's why some vendors sell the "oil catch can". It's suppose to keep the oil from going into your throttle body at WOT. Here's a link to a letter from GM, off the GTO forum, that says it's normal to use oil during aggressive driving. http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/attachm...3&d=1177086613

My C5 didn't use any oil between changes, and I went by the oil minder. I used M1 like the book says.

I put 19,000+ miles on my 05 silver coupe in 18 months. It never used any oil between oil changes.

From reading others' posts, most here just pick an arbitrary % Oil Life Left to change their oil. A few "old school" drivers still change theirs every 3,000 miles.

Although my 06 MR coupe is a DD, I'm only putting about 5K to 6K miles a year on it. So, I'm changing mine once a year like the book says.

No oil consuption here.....I drive my '06 pretty easy most of the time. I do change the oil (Mobil 1) when the DIC says 25% remaining. I enjoy doing the change myself.

No oil consumption here either (07 A6). About to hit 12k miles and I won't say I drive it hard, but I occasionally enjoy my car.

I drive mine hard a lot of times with 1-2 and 2-3 shifts at redline. The most I've ever seen in a little less than 1/2 qt between 4,000 mile oil changes.
