anyone out there get the side grille for a c6 and have problem getting them in! is there a way to install them instead of taking the wheels off.thanks for the help
I picked up the official GM ones on an auction site and I removed the wheel to do it. Installation wasnt bad as the assembly actually used the push pins from the fenderwell liner.
I did the DIY with pipedreams template from his site.
Ordered the stainless mesh from McNichols.
Cut the mesh to template (or close to)
Installed with wheels ON, tight but do-able.
Would that be e-bay? I never see the GM OEM's there............

I have seen 2 new sets of the GM ones on ebay in the last 6 months. Did not bid on them either time. What an idiot I was! If I ever do add side screens, it will only be the GM ones. I would prefer black screens though. Will probably have to get the GM ones powder coated to match my black RaceMesh grill.
It's easier with the wheels off but can be done with wheels on.
Pull the plastic pins holding the fender liner, carefully bend the liner to catch in the tire tread then turn the wheels. The liner will go back in place and can be re-attached with the original pins without damage.
Actually the directions I had with mine suggested you leave the wheel on. Remove the push pins, pull the inner fender in and slip it down in one of the tire treads, then turn the wheel which pulls the inner fender back out of your way. Worked like a charm.
Originally I had bought mine from Race Mesh. The installation involved temporally holding the screen in place with double sided tape while gluing it in place with silicone. I did this last year when it was 20 degrees in NY. I couldn't get anything to stick, even duct tape.
I returned them and bought OEM GM ones on Ebay. Much nicer install and should never get accidentally pushed in while washing the car.

Yes thats where I purchased them from at quite a savings. They appear to be the real deal as they had the GM stampings on them.
I installed my side screens with the wheels on in the driveway. Just turned the wheel to the side. I also used fish hooks and a nearby bush to keep the screens positioned until the silicone set up.
I picked up a pair at Corvettes at Carlisle from West Coast Corvettes for about $40. Each mesh has a pair of plastic "blocks" with double sided tape attached. There is also a tube of alcohol with a swab end, used to prep the inside of the vents, before sticking the tape blocks in place. Held very tight. Then I added a couple pieces of my own double sided tape that I heated with a hair dryer before holding in place. And I never removed the wheels - just cut each one hard to the outside.
