Picked up some flowers last night on my way to a friend’s house and while getting inside the car, I see a police car slowing down in the parking lot and looking at the car. A girl walking by the car says “What a car, I feel like just jumping in for a ride”. I gave her a smile and so did the policeman.
I put the flowers on the passenger side and start the car. The cop is gone.
I leave the big parking lot and in less than three seconds I see the blue lights behind me.
I pull over immediately and roll the window down. It is the same cop in the parking lot.
He asked me if I knew why I was pulled over. I said no but thinking he pulled me over so he could take a better look at the car since he was staring at the car before in the parking lot.
He tells me I ran a stop sign. I told him I always stop and count to three before I proceed and I also have a perfect driving record.
He goes back to his car and writes the ticket anyway and gives it to me and wishes me a nice night.
I am totally confused. Not sure why he did this!!!!!
I have gotten one ticket too for speeding when I was not speeding at all. I am not saying all cops are bad, but after that I look at them in a completely different way. Take it to court maybe he wont show up.
So was it the stop sign leaving the parking lot? I wonder if that's even a valid stop sign because it's in a private (or maybe public) parking lot perhaps and not on a valid road. Just throwing that out there.

I have a cousin who lives in the next town over who is a police officer. I wouldn't say all cops are bad either, but judging by the stories he has told me, a good portion of them are corrupt or bad in some way. He told me it is a power thing for them...
What the cop did was total . Maybe a day in traffic school is an option so it don't hit your insurance??
Here in Massachusetts, there is no traffic school for any type of moving violation.
Instead, if this is your first ticket in the past six years, the state ignores it and since this is my first ticket, my insurance will not go up.
That's what I was thinking as well. Stop signs on private property don't count, do they?
Private property doesn't count (usually, except fire lanes and handicapped spaces which have signs designating the ordinance).....if you run a stop sign and hit someone (or vice versa), the cop will make a report but not cite anyone; you must settle the matter personally in court with the other party if you wish. ......You don't even need a license to drive your car on private property.
Being a retired LEO, this kind of things is upsetting as it give LEOs a bad name. But like in all professions there are some bad eggs and you just encountered one. I would contest the violation and make him testify as to where he was when he saw you commit the stop sign violation. Best of luck.
I agree. It sounds like total . Make the cop explain where he was and that you ackwoledged each other so you know a cop was near by. I don't think anyone would run a stop sign if they knew 100% a cop was near by. I just hope Mass doesn't have courts where they charge you extra if you lose the case.
Sounds like he's just an a$$hole. He is the type of cop that gives cops a bad name. One of my good friends is a cop and he's the type you want to meet (if you have to). He's fair and cool and doesn't pull bs stuff like that. I'd take him to court for sure over that one!
