Default OnStar subscription

I know there are varying opinions about OnStar, but I like having the service. This is for the folks that want to continue their service.

I just got off the phone with a rep and received the discount subscription price of $148.92/yr and rolled over my phone minutes. Started off telling the rep that I wanted to cancel my service. She asked why and I told her that I had heard that a few folks had received an offer for a discounted yearly fee of around $149.00 and they were able to keep their phone minutes. But I hadn't received any such offer, so I wanted to cancel my service. She said she could give me the subscription at $148.92 and would roll over my minutes. Happy ending.

I just received the offer in the mail. My sales person didn't know how to activate it, so I've never used it. I didn't see anything about the phone minutes - do you happen to know what the rates are? Seems like it would be a nice/safe feature to use.

My offer to renew my subscription was for $199.00/yr. That's why I asked about the discount. After I bought the car last year, OnStar contacted me for additional phones minutes to the 30 minutes that was included with the original first time complimentary subscription. I believe the additional 100 minutes was $30.00. I haven't used any of the minutes, so that was the reason why I also asked about rolling those minutes over with the new subscription.

If you have Verizon, the phone minutes can be combined with the verizon account.

When I called to cancel the Onstar renewal, the rep did have one good suggestion- check with your insurance carrier to see if a discount is offered for Onstar's "anti theft" feature.
Prolly not gonna offset the $150 annual cost, but it might help.

OnStar is dying. And will soon be OffStar. Maybe the biggest failure for GM since the Vega.

I too just got a new '08, and took the $14,95 offer for an additional 100 minutes. When it comes time to renew, I will. Personally I look at this system and a boost to my insurance by adding one more layer of protection. At a little over $12/mo. it is a great deal even if I don't use the phone.

I was able to get a discount on my wifes GXP and also roll over her unused telephone minutes,,plan on doing the same when mine expires,,I think anyone can get a discount if you threaten to drop them,,,same thing applies to your cable bill,,Comcast (who I HATE but has a monopoly on the cable here) will give you something for free or at a discount if you threaten to leave them.

if your like me and have to garage your vette in the winter, call xm and onstar and tell them you don't use the vehicle in the winter and they will not charge you for the months it is stored, they will not discontinue your service, but will extend it thru the winter, at no cost, how do i know? i just did it back in 12/07, it moved my subscription date up to 6/08. 142.00 plus tax for on star, and 77.00 for xm......my old subscription date was 2/08......
