I have the audio FAQ saved as a favorite - did a search on hiss, and read nearly all of the stuff there. Some great stuff I've saved.
I didn't see anything about hiss...?
Did see a bunch on how to do both, just wanted to know if getting rid of the bose amp gets rid of the hiss? or is it in the head unit itself?
To make a long story short...if you keep the Bose, you'll have to live with the hiss. I found turning off the Auto Volume made it a little less obtrusive to my hearing, but it's still there. YMMV
Took it to the dealer who was able to reproduce it, but was told there is no fix as it is "normal" according to GM. There's been a few random posts from others who notice the hissing, and most all who took them back to the dealers got similar answers, IIRC.
for what it's worth, the hiss is present on the non bose system. if you are sitting in your car with the engine off and flippig thru the DIC functions, you can hear the hiss come thru the speakers. also when you change XM stations, there's an instant 20% hiss mixed in with the music. this is why i won't renew XM when it expires.
I'm just waiting on the Kenwood DNX8120 to come out and mine will be all Kenwood and JL - No Bose! I've never heard so much distortion on a factory unit.
The gain-rider (auto volume control) pumps quite a bit; the attack and release time constants are about as well chosen as any other part of this system. Turning that off may help.
I just picked up an '08 vert, really happy with the car.
The Bose stereo system.. eh...
I can hear what sounds like s/n ratio noise when the stereo is on...do you guys know if it's in the head unit or the amplifier?
Thinking about tossing the blose amp/speakers and putting in JL Audio stuff - I'd like to keep the stock head unit....
I ditched the bose system 5 days after I picked up my '08 vert.
I did a Pioneer D3 (I think) H/U, with the ipod interface, Focal Speakers, and all of the controls via the steering wheel. (I still have the boze subs, but I'm waiting for a thin focal to fit in the doors, and I'll swap them out). PM me if you need more info.
