The Bose system consists of a 3.5-inch speaker in the center of the dashboard, two 10-inch woofers, one in each door and two 3.5-inch speakers also one in each door located directly above the woofers.

The main problem is that the 10" speaker that goes in the door is a specialty model - finding aftermarket speakers that can fit within the door depth and in that size is pretty tough.
So most sites list the speaker size as smaller, with the use of an adaptor. Most 6 1/2's will fit without any problem - some 8's also.
