I see there is an Airaid Intake System for 06-08 Z06s, im assuming it would fit on our cars too (ls3)? It pretty much looks like the k&n kit but can be had for under 200 bucks on ebay, has anyone heard of this intake or have any experience with it?
I received an email from Ryan Young at Airaid today: I have checked with our engineers and they are working on a system for the new ’08 Corvette C6. There were some minor differences between the ’07 Z06 and the ’08 C6. When we test fitted our system we found that the Cool Air Dam was a little taller and also the grommets we use to secure the system are too thick and the tube contacts the hood. We are making the changes to the system to allow it to fit the new ’08 C6. I can save you email address and let you know as soon as the system is released. If you have any further questions please contact me. Thank you
The system has an integral air dam to help stop hot air from entering the shroud area. Add the Vette-air and you will be good to go.
I also checked with Airaid, and it appears that they are "very close" to relaeasing their 2008 LS3 product. At the price point (approx. $225), and with an added Vette Air ($125), I think it is a better approach (and cheaper) than some of the others.
Dude, I got my Vararam new shipped to my door for $310 from "FRCBobby", a vendor here. It really made an incredible difference...I should you should try to pay a little bit more and get one that really works.
I've had those generic CAIs on all my old cars, and plain and simple, the Vararam is the only one that ever made a difference in the SOTP meter!
I did a quick search for Vararam c6 and found some info for ya...
"The ultimate forced air intake system for 1997-2004 C5 and Z06 Corvette. The Vararam VR2B Intake kit converts the fog lamp housings in the fascia-front bumper into functional air inlets that force air at speed directly into the Vararam intake system. A true bolt-on system and no modifications to install. Does not interfere with fog lamps or function. Manufacturer claims up to 30 horsepower gains and a near half-second in 1/4-mile ET reduction! Track proven!"
Yep...the LS3 Vararam is going to be mopre costy than $310. More like $500, as has been pointed out. The Vette-Air plus Airaid combo seems the best solution at least for me. Cold air + air cleaner up higher = safer. Also less $.
The build quality seems better from what I have read also.
