ok If the dealer gives you an order number does that mean that they have allocation or not?

It does not. It means that the order has been entered into the order work bench. When your order is placed it will go to status event code 1100. It can sit at 1100 for months (not so much this time of year) as the model year is closing out. It doesn't mean much until it changes order codes and that should get to 2500 within the first two weeks if they have an allocation.

STATUS EVENT CODES
1100-Order placed at dealer
1101-Order accepted by GM
2001-Order generated to dealer
2005-Order replaced with GM Prospec order
2050-Order changed
2500-Order sent to production, preferenced
3000-Order accepted by production control
3100-Order available to sequence (now the tpw becomes more stable)
3300-Order selected for production by assembly plant
3400-Order broadcasted for production
3800-Vehicle produced
4150-Vehicle invoiced to dealer
4200-Vehicle shipped
5000-Vehicle delivered to dealer
6000-Vehicle delivered to customer

Definitely NOT. It means only that they've entered your order into the Vehicle Order Management System. If they have allocation that will be used to fill your order, your order's status code will change to 2500. Allocations are announced on Thursdays; orders typically get "picked up" on Tuesdays. I suggest contacting your dealer every Wednesday to check on your status code; if it's still at 1100, they haven't yet received an allocation. Once you hit 2500, you should have your car in 5 - 6 weeks.

When your dealer enters an order it goes to GM for error checking and edit. If it passes it goes to Status 1100 and you get an order number. If your dealer does not have an allocation, your order can sit at this level indefinitely.

What you want to see is your order move to Status 2000, which means it has been accepted by GM because your dealer has an allocation. This should occur within one week of placing your order.

The next step you want to see is a move to Status 2500, means your order was pulled to the Production System. This should occur within a week or so after the move to 2000.

Then you really want to see the move to Status 3000, within a week or so of the move to 2500. This is excitement time.

And to add a little more information, your dealer knows how many allocations (if any) he has for the next 4-5 weeks, and how many each week. He also knows how many he has for the next 4-5 weeks, but not how many each week.

Ask him when his next allocation is and is that allocation for your order.

The time to order can take 4 - 10 weeks. (if they have allocation or are about to get allocation).

You can call chevy directly @ 866.790.5700 and select warranties. When you get a live person you can tell them your looking to see if you order has been accepted by GM from the dealer. Have your work bench sheet with you and on it you will find an ORDER # and a BAC #. The person on the phone may put you on hold for a few minutes to look up the info pertaining to those numbers. They will tell you if your car has entered a TPW (Target Production Week).

The order # is obviously your order but the BAC is the dealers ID number that is registered with chevrolet. Instead of hassling my dealer every week I just call chevy and they been very helpful.

P.S. you will also be givin a CASE # so when you call again it can facilitate your next call for the order status.

Good luck and keep us posted! (see my sig) congrats on your new ride!

It's usually because they want to get your order (and effectively take you out of the market for other dealers) even though they know that they don't have allocation and may not for quite some time.
