Default Telescoping wheel question

I'm hoping someone can hope me out here. It's my understanding that the 3LT comes with power telescoping wheel, where the 2LT does not. Does that mean that the wheels in 1LT and 2LT cars do not have telescoping wheels at all, or that they do, and it's just manual?

If the steering wheel of a 2LT car is not telescoping, can someone tell me where it sits in relation to a telescoping wheel? In other words, is it equivalent to all the way in to the dash, all the way out, or somewhere in between?

I just got back from a local auto show, where I got to sit in a JSB Z06 for a bit, and it had the 2LZ package. I got it to the point where it fit me like a glove, but I was curious about the steering wheel settings on 1LT and 2LT models. I haven't had the chance to sit in any yet for a comparison.

My preference, if I pull the trigger on a C6, would be for a 2LT, since 3LT comes with a whole lot of stuff that I really don't need (or wouldn't use), and don't feel like paying for. If I find one that's discounted enough, I may reconsider, but I'd really like to order and do the museum delivery.

Thanks!

The 1LT, 2LT,3LT and 4LT cars all have a manual tilt wheel mechanism. This means that the steering column will rotate on an arc so that the bottom of the steering wheel will lower down towards your lap and raise up away from your lap. The position of the wheel at arms length will not change.

The 3LT and 4LT cars have a telescoping steering column in addition to the manual tilt wheel. The steering wheel at arms length will move linearly in towards the dash instrument panel and out away from the IP towards the driver.

For me, the head up display (HUD) was worth the price of admission alone on the 3LT car and since I wanted the navigation unit this was a no brainer. Not everyone needs or wants these features.

The wheel is all the way to the dash. I just ordered one and this was one of my questions as well.

Between the memory seats, and wheel position - very cool - and all the other goodies I gladly opted for the 3lt. Wasn't going to but after sitting in the car and experimenting with the gadgets, I decided it was worth it.

Thanks!

I'm not looking for this to turn into yet another debate about the value of 2LT vs 3LT. Since the wheel does not telescope on the 1LT and 2LT cars, can anyone answer my question about where the fixed wheel falls in relation to the telescoping wheel's range of motion (from the dash)?

I'll try to see if I can sit in one with a non-telescoping wheel soon to try it out.

Thanks again.

Avizandum: I must've been typing my reply while you posted Thanks!

So the wheel is all the way in? That shouldn't be a problem for me; I'm fairly tall, with gorilla arms.

Since I'd be the only driver, memory seats are a waste for me. All of that stuff would be a "set it and forget it" affair, kind of like the Showtime Rotisserie

You're welcome. All the way in. Yes. My arms are short so it was part of the attraction...

Be sure you sit in one and try it... I'm 6'-4" with long arms as well, BUT with my seat all the way back (and reclined to max. extent possible) I keep my 3LT wheel fully extended and wouldn't mind if it even came a bit closer to the driver. However, I don't like the feel of having to reach for the wheel... just my $0.02

Same here... only 6ft, but seat alllllll the way back, and the telescoping wheel all the way out makes for a great fit.

Same height here...I don't think I would be nearly as comfortable without the telescoping wheel.

Thanks for the advice.

So, if the fixed wheel is all the way in, then sitting in a 3LT with the wheel all the way towards the dash would give the same feel, correct?

I'm not quite as tall as you guys, but at 6'2", I'm still up there a little bit.

On the 3LT option for 2006, the telescoping wheel actually telescopes less than 2 inches.

OK, it's only two inches more but sometimes two inches can make all the difference in the world.........

I'm 5'4" tall but like to sit back as far as possible and the telescoping wheel allows me to do that.

I have no inside knowledge here, but I am not so sure that the non-telescoping wheel would be equivalent to a telescoping wheel all the way in. I think it could very easily be just the opposite. I have been through a good number of vehicles, and have always had to have the seat all the way back. The Vette is the first vehicle I have sat in with the seat all the way back that is uncomfortable with the wheel position all the way in. I believe the natural position is all the way out, and that is likely to be the way the non-telescoping wheel is set. Isn't the biggest reason for having the telesope feature to help ease entry and exit, which would also support the out position as the natural position.
