Recently my headlamps have been looking like they got 'sandblasted' . You cant tell unless your close and the headlights are on. Anyone else know what I am talking about? Is there a way to smoothen them out and make it look new again.
they can be buffed-out to like-new appearance. you can go with that but to prevent additional damage get some 3m clear covers. that's my . what does the paint look like?
So what do you recommend I do if I cant buff them?
The paint on the front end is still fine except a few small rock knicks here and there... you cant see anything from farther then like 5 ft or so, but any closer and you can see.... For the front end I am probably going to eventually 'fill in' the wholes and get the whole car buffed and detailed.

well...after the front end is touched-up and buffed i'd get a clear bra installed. as for the lights and the uv coat...well if you did get them buffed clear again you could try this...after buffing keep them treated with 303 protectant (http://www.303products.com/tech/inde...Product_ID=428) for the uv protection. you could even put the 3m film on them and then keep the film treated with 303 protectant. don't know if it'll work but these are just ideas, it's your car.
there is a coating on them to prevent yellowing and fading. If you buff them you'll remove this coating, so you probably don't want to do that.
True...if you buff them, then you'll have to keep buffing them regularly because they will cloud and yellow quickly thereafter. It will eventually happen anyway, but it's better to put buffing off as long as possible. Of course, if the surface is rough and pitted, it's likely the coating is ALREADY gone.
I see you live near Phoenix. Maybe you haven't been there long enough to recognize dust storm damage...it's common in the Southwest if you're unlucky enough to get caught in a bad one.

I thought it had been discussed here several times that putting the clear bra stuff on the headlights is bad. It causes the heat to build up, eventually leading to several small cracks in the plastic?

a very small number thought they had trouble from the film. i've used it on several vehicles and NEVER had a problem.
It would seem to me that the protective coating is being sand blasted off anyway. I would think a thin film plastic cover, as opposed to the really thick ones, would give it good protection and not insulate it to trap the heat. Just thinking...

You really don't want to do that. The outer UV layer is very thin, and once its gone the plastic will cloud and yellow all the way through pretty quickly.
