Hi Guys
First time on the C6 section[ I own a C5]. A friend just bought a black 05, 6 speed, with 21k on it. Didn't know she was going to get it. Guess it was a surprise. A friend of mine had a 05 that he finally had to turn in because of constant problems with the DBS[ dead battery syndrome]. I've heard of this problem with many 05's and was wondering how much of a problem this was. Anyone out there have any input on this? I've been on this girl for a long time to get rid of her Audi and get a vette. Sure don't want her to have any problems with it. So far she loves it.
No problems with mine. Just put it in reverse when you turn it off, make sure the steering wheel locks, then open the door to get out.
I know it sounds weird but the one and only time I had DBS was when I opened my door before shutting down the engine. Ever since then it's been reverse, shut down, steering lock, door open. Never had DBS again.

I'm suprised too, but I thought I read there's also a reflash of the computer for this that helps. Plus, make sure this is a battery tender, not a trickle charger or charger. It costs relatively little; about 25 even at autozone, pep boys, etc. And reverse is mandatory.
Also, remember that all the sockets are "hot" always. Meaning, if you leave a GPS or cell phone charger in it, and turn off the car, it's still charging away, draining the battery. Finally, I've heard (not just '05s) that those who wash, wax and otherwise fix their cars can't leave their stereos on for a long time without draining the battery. I don't know this for a fact, just read it here a few times. So, be careful or try it out and see if it happens.
There was a TSB software reflash for the DBS. I don't have the info handy but someone who does will probably come by.
Off your topic, there was also a software update for the '05 nav (if she has one) to allow for MP3 play.
IMO you should check to see what has been done to the car and get the important updates if not done already. You can PM a couple members to do that, gmautotech and bubbatex, with the VIN:

Thanks. I'm sure the dealer will help her out with any questions she might have. So far they've bent over backwards to help her. Even free oil changes. Of course, it sure helps that shes a foxy lady!

Never had a DBS problem, ever. Built 1/21/05. It has sat for month while I was in Europe and several 3 week stints. Gets driven 3-4 times a week depending on where I have to go (no stop n stop traffic for this MN6!)
I have an '05 and have never had a battery problem. I DO NOT drive my car everyday and it always cranks up. Sometimes it sits over a week and still no problems.

Mine sits for 2-3 weeks at a time during the winter without being started.

mine was a late build O5 Aug never had any problems except a few minor recalls
Damn!!Good for you!
Never an issue w.the battery in my 05 mn6 z51 in the 2.5 years I owned it.I did hook up a battery tender after a while just in case.
I've had my 05 mn6 for a year and have had no problems. Had it stored all winter with battery tender. Started right up yesterday. Don't drive it every day, but have gone a week or so without using it and usually starts right up.
I had a 05 with 5 DBS attacks. The Flash they came out with fixed it.
"TRUE" DBS was a huge problem on the forum in 05-06. Now you hardley here about it much any more.
What comes on here now is battery problems that all now call DBS.
"True" DBS was at the time we started calling it was a 05 manual shutting down by the numbers and the battery going dead in about 3 days. Later the DBS named morphed into any battery problem.
Search under my name, I had tons of stuff on it then
