After I was my car I get some water from the base of the mirror that is not just water. I'm not talking about right after I wash it or even right after I drive it. It seems to take up to 24 hours to work it's way out and it does so even if the car is sitting still.
My car is about 4 months old. It used to drip from both mirrors. Now it only seems to come from the drivers side. It leaves a white residue and does not wash off with detailing spray. What the heck is this stuff and where does it come from? Even if I get all the water out from behing the mirror glass, it still leaks from the base. Is there water sitting in the base even if the top is empty? Does anyone else have this problem?
I have that on my 08 Z, only on the passenger side. No matter how much I clean the area, and blow it out with my Air Force Blaster, it still seems to drip.
No idea what it is. I'm assuming it'll go away as I wash it more.
Just wondering? Do you tilt your mirror bodies "down" when washing your vette? I have found that tilting the bodies down during and after the wash helps all the water run out and eliminates that "white water" running down the side of the car later....
Not sure what it is, but I blow out my mirrors with my leaf blower every time I wash the vette and never have an issue with dripping.
Tail lights don't drip either with the leaf blower trick. Actually I do wheels, emblems, door handles, mirrors, front grill, running lights, head lamp assemblies, and darn near anything that is a water trap and there are no drips.

It is quite possible that white lithium grease is used on the power mirror mechanism and trace amounts are being picked up by the soapy water and running out with the drips. I'd recommend that you move the mirror around with the adjustment switch and that may work the balance of the excess lubricant out from the mechanism. This may help bring an end to the white residue you are finding in just another wash or two.

I'd offer caution in this. My caution only comes from the C5 days. The mirror retention spring in the C5 was notorious for failing and leaving a flopping mirror housing. I don't know if this system was changed for the C6 so it may never be an issue. This was more prevelant in cars who's owner would frequently rotate the mirror housing for parking or washing. Just a thought.
The white film is also likely mineral deposits from the evaporating water. Cover the face of your mirrors with one of the commercial covers, some wide masking tape (what I do), or a ziplock bag prior to washing and this problem goes away. Almost impossible to get that residual water out otherwise and gravity will always win - the water finds a way out.

Me too guys. It is the water left behind that gravity brings out later. I have a 2000 model GMC Z71 truck, my wife has a 2001 GMC Yukon and have had that same problem since new on those 2 rides. Polishing compound will remove the stains with lots of elbow grease. You would think GM could fix this problem by now.
I use a leaf blower too, but caution : Using a leaf blower could scratch your paint if the exhaut tube comes in contact- put some duct tape on the end of your blower tube!
Baggies or the "mirror covers" should stop this. The mirror covers are hard to get on if you don't warm them up first. I run hot water over them to soften them up. I use a blower for surface areas and wheels but found that it's hard to get all out of the mirrors.
My drips seem to be coming from the swivel area of the mirrors. I think Paul was correct in that it's probably an abundance of grease that just needs to work itself out.
I've not seen that on mine, bet it's a mess. Wonder if it would work to tape off around the mirrors with plastic and put some type of grease cutting soap in there to soak, move them around some, then rinse out? Just a thought.

I use a leaf blower on the mirror housing as well as the base and still get runs down the side. I have very hard water and always thought the white residue was just deposits from it.
