Default Jacking Pucks ?

So all I have been reading about these jacking pucks.......You don't leave them installed all the time, but I guess you need them to lift the car. If you take it to a tire shop, do you assume they have them or just carry them with you in the car all the time, just in case?

What are most of you doing?

I keep mine in the rear cubbies. I would not assume the shop you take yours to has them or even knows how to use them.

I keep a set of four wraped up in cloth and stored in one of the little compartments in the rear just in case I need to use them.

Go to Bavarian Autosport
www.bavauto.com $7.95 each

Part# 51 71 8 268 885

Or go to local BMW dealership.
They snap in, and I leave mine in permanently. I use the rectangular item.

Keep them in the car at all times........Unless you have the kind that lock in and stay on the rocker panel

Generally speaking, the jacking pucks that are inserted into the slots in the rocker arms (space between the tires below the doors) are used when the car is lifted by a "four points" hydraulic lift. These are the types of lifts you see in an automotive shop. I think some here use the jacking pucks in the rocker arms when they want to lift the car with a floor jack. However, the owner's manual indicates that other jacking points are designated/available for lifting the car with a standard floor jack.

Personally, I have never lifted my car from the rocker arm slots as I feel that doing so with a floor jact puts undue stress on the vehicle frame. Rather, I prefer to lift from the jacking points underneath the car as indicated in the manual. Just my opinion.

I use these ones from Ecklers.

I am not fond of the aluminum pucks.

I have a set of rocker rails installed that extend about 1/4inch below the rocker panel. It gives me about 5 feet length of jacking area directly below the frame rails. I take the cup off of my floor jack and just use the flat.

The rocker rails purpose is to keep the rocker panels from being damaged on high speed bumps, driveways, etc. but they are also great for jacking from the side.

Got my set of 4 from eBay- do a search on eBay motors for corvette jacking pucks.
Mine were delivered for ~ $20.00. Keep them in a gallon baggie in a rear compartment.
