Rick, I just got one of yours for my new CRM and was excited based on quality and no suction cups, but will not be using it because it prevents to complete travel of the passenger visor. If I had know that before, I would not have purchased it. You need to modify or add a second style that moves the unit back further so the visor can have all or almost all of its travel. In my case I just waisted my money and guess I will try to recoup it by selling it on ebay.

Question: How long of a visicord do you actually need? 20" seems excessive and hard to hide. 8" maybe too short to allow temporary removal of detector?
Love this install...another great find on this forum that never fails to solve my problems!

Thanks for the nice words, my cord is just a phone cord that I made myself, but it is only 7" long and it could easily be 2" shorter and work fine, so the 8 should be good for you. Keep in mind that the 8500 is on the driver's side visor screw and the jack on the side of it is on the right, so it faces the rearview mirror. If it were to be installed on the passenger side, the cord would need to be much longer because the jack on the 8500 is on the wrong side and the plug on the back of the mirror is on the wrong side also...

Here is a pic of the actual bracket, I took it out of the car for the picture.
The second pic is a tracing of the actual contour of the bracket...for easy bending. Since Flickr resizes photos, I can't make it actual size, but the original full size image is 1265 x 541 pixels, so it can be resized to that number and it will be the right size. I also put the overall length of the piece in there at 6 1/16 inches, so if you are bending, make sure that is correct. The notch at the end by the hole is there to allow the point on the visor clip to go through. And the ruler must be ground off to make it slightly narrower to match the width of the slot that it goes into on the detector.

I saved the bottom photo and enlarged it to 1265 x541 pixels, then printed it out. It was 6 1/16" as noted. I went down to Walmart and bought the ruler - major complaint - it was now $2.88 instead of $1.97!
I then bent it to the exact shape of the drawing, heating the last bend with a propane torch. Since the hole was already in the ruler, all I had to do was cut the little notch in the end.
Your instructions were great and it fit perfectly.
I got tired of those stupid suction cups coming loose all the time. Now my Passport 8500 will stay in place.
Thank you for an excellent and easy mod. What's especially nice about it is that it is completely hidden when the detector is in place and almost all hidden even when it is off. And no screws show anywhere.

Hope you enjoy it Ray! Mine is on a Vert, but on a hardtop it really hides away up there!
Thanks,
Chris

cclive, Thanks for this post! I used you pattern and it fit like a glove!
The only issue I had was with my V1 bouncing. So I took a boat key-ring float, and wrapped black electrical tape around it, and jammed it in between the detector and the windshield frame... All's well now, no bouncing!
I also used the black cord that came with the unit.
Total cost... about $22 (for the ruler and the new blow torch)... Sweet!

Good job! and now you have a new torch also....I would always rather buy the tool and do it myself rather than pay somwone else to use their tool...
wait that sounds creepy, but you get the idea!

WSP use Laser guns on the I-5 overpasses between Seattle and the Canadian border looking down into the I-5 traffic below. I have seen them use their regular patrol cars and their "truck patrol" SUVs.
I have the Passport 8500 X50 and have been able to pick up both front and rear aspect "targeting" from 2.5 to around 5 miles when they leave the gun ON continuously for heavy traffic.

no! the great lakes does not leave it hanging down uder the mirror, my GL use's the visor screw and it is tucked up and out of the way and I don't have the visor hook right in front of the display, 16 inch invisa-cord, no bounce or vibration what so ever! and all laser does is calculate distance the base unit HAS to stand still, they do not have a VASCAR laser yet! they do not use lidar from ANY moving thing air or ground! got lidar'ed the other day, he should have had me, but I think the escort picked up refracted light, because he did'nt come after me and i was ten over, the wonder mount the guy made covers up the lidar reciever on top of the escort! I'll stick with my Great lakes
