I wish my Dad was still around. He was a car guy and would have loved the Vette! I would have let him drive it in a heart beat! If he is physically able, why not.

That his sight is not adequate to drive, does not render him unable to view the basic shape, color and outlines of a beautiful car---his Corvette. His family has taken marvelous pleasure in his hobby and continue to foster it.

He takes great pleasure in being able to ride "shotgun." And I would assume you, for one, would not deny him that continuing pleasure----fully sighted or not. Thank you for your indulgence. Of all of us who support and applaud Mark and his family, as I'm sure you now do, too.
Very well put sir

How to solve this question?

Ask your self these two questions:

1. Does your dad drive other cars in an acceptable manner?

2. If the roles were reversed, would he let you drive his Corvette?

If you can answer yes to both of these questions I would let him drive it.

I say let him drive it. He's 93 and he won't get to do too many more things that exciting. You only live once.

As to your dad driving, hmmm, if he passes his eye doctor test, maybe. But not with you at first. Let him take a bona fide driving "test" with someone.

In truth, it's for everyone's good: his, yours, other drivers, etc.

And good luck.
It is the safest thing to do.

Yes...I wouldnt even think twice about it.

If your dad is able to get around on his own and can see then I wouldnt care what anyone else would say. I'd throw him the keys and tell him to get in.

WTF kind of person would deny their father of something like that when who knows how much time you have left with them?

I had the exact situation with my Dad and my motorcycle. I let him take it out the first day I had it and I never regreted doing so.

I played a golf tournament with Dad when he hit his only hole in one. Dad taught me the basics I use every day to make a living. Dad is gone now but I am so happy we did so much together. Never look back.

If your Dad passes the eye test - he can drive MY Corvette. If it has the effect on him it has on me - I will try to keep him away from the wife!!!!

If your Dad currently drives other cars well....and can appreciate the power of your car....go for it...if you have any doubt then you have your answer....

We let my 87 year old father in law drive our C6 while he was ailing with cancer. He's gone now and I would not take anything for the grin on his face while he was driving the car. It lasted for hours after he finished.

If something haoppens, that's why you carry insurance!
