I know the gas cap is horribly cheap but mine isnt broken but I keep getting the error msg. Any way to fix that and are there better quality gas caps you can buy?
You need to check as the cap may seem like it is going on and you will hear the clicking but the cap is only spinning. You need to lube the cap threads with WD40 or a silicone spray to allow it to go on without binding, also don't push and turn.
You can do a search within these pages on "gas caps" and find that your experience isn't unique....lots of folks with seemingly good caps, tightened the extra clicks and still the DIC message.
Get a new cap from the dealer and drive a bit--it should reset. Good luck.
Did that and some info helpful. The WD40 thing I tried, gonna see the next time if it worked, when I start the car it still comes on but after I clear the DIC haven't noticed it yet, not sure how long it waits to display it again. Might be a leak somewhere that is throwing the sensor.
