Backing onto ramps, good idea?
I haven't tried this with the vette yet and was wondering if that is a save idea with my cheap ramps. The tires seem to be too wide for them. When the rear goes up, will the front bumper scratch?
I have these:
Any opinions?
thanks

the incline may be too steep to prevent the front nose or air dam from scratching with that type of ramp. I use the long race ramps from brute industries, they have a longer "runway" and more gradual incline and the car doesn't scrape in either direction and it gets way off the ground for plenty of clearance.

You're right, they seem too narrow for the tires... I have the same crappy yellow ramps, and did not want to chance jack'n up the sidewalls (unseen damage) so I went and bought a set of the Rhino ramps for 40 samolians... work great no worries....

I think I'll have to pick up a set of those...

Remember, one of the main problem with backing onto ramps is that the drive wheels are in the REAR. Therefore, once on the ramps, you're 100% relying on the traction not slipping. It's VERY easy to slip left or right when the drive wheels are the ones trying to go up the ramp. Personally, I can't endorse backing onto those wimpy little ramps you've got (or any others for that matter). But, if you MUST do it, get wider ramps, grippier traction, more gradually sloped, etc.

Not a good idea. I remember a post a while back where a guy did that and as he gave it gas the tires grabbed the ramp and shot it forward and he found himself with broken rocker panels on the ramps and the wheels dangling.

Thanks for the input guys, I need to do this to install the CAGS eliminator but got away with using my crappy jack. I'll probably purchase the rhino ramps or think of a better solution for future.

those race ramps won't slip from under the drive wheels and cause damage to the rockers. They also won't have cracks down the sides and possibly failure due to being HOLLOW plastic. The race ramps are a light weight SOLID ramp.

I bought the Race Ramp Roll-ups. I put them behind the front wheels and back right up on them to give me an extra 4" of height.
That allows me to slide my floor jack with crossmember right under the car with no problem. Great product

Just today I was going to back onto my Rhino ramps; I wanted the car a little higher so I could polish my exhaust tips. I ended up not raising the car and just sat on the ground..
