Hey, I may be considering repainting my car in the future.
I have an 05 Victory Red and I want to go to a Gloss Black or whatever the black is called that comes from the factory. How much would a relatively decent paint job cost? Granted I am getting several new body parts that are pre-prepped (new hood, z06 full widebody).
I've always wanted a black, my car is relatively modded. I don't know if it would be more economical to just trade in and get a newer black C6 or just get a relatively good paint job.
i think it would be better to de-mod your car trade it in or sell it and get a new or same year black c6 and slap your mods on that car. Plus trying to sell a repainted car is a total bitch.
A good paint job can run from $3500 to $6000 depending on what part of the country you're in. I normally charge somewhere in between, and that includes door jambs and under trunk/hood, removing all rubber and trim too. Some guys will do it for less, but will only tape your trim and rubber, and might skimp on the wet sanding and buffing. Best bet is to go to a few shops and ask for quotes, see some of their work. We do a lot of hot rod jobs, and those guys feel like they aren't getting a good job unless they are paying $6000+. That usually includes a small amount of body work.
Your resale value will be totally reduced in the future. Who wants a re painted Vette? This causes questions, mysteries and low resale. I'f guess between the paint job and the questions you will be out $12,000 to $15,000. I'm an ex appraiser!

I think I have to agree. If a customer brought me his flawless Vette and asked me to paint it, I'd wonder why. I'd think that most consumers would find a repainted newer car a bit suspect. To each their own, though.
I agree with others, if you want black, it's best to just trade for a black one, unless you want an exotic color like lambo green that someone on this forum has, which looks super IMO
