Radar Detector BEST??
Ok guys don't wan't to start huge debate ......I'm considering a radar detector, but with so many on the market claiming supremacy, I need some educated opinons from the guys that have them.
I have a passport 7500 and a V1. The V1 detects a lot further then the 7500. The 7500 is better at auto muting. Maybe I don't know how to use the V1 though. Bottom line is after using the V1 over the weekend, I will not be going back to escort. It really is better.
Question for escort owners? No offense and not trying to start a war but why do you guys buy those escorts? The V1 is only $100 more and covers a real 4 sides of the car with arrows at a longer distance. Why would you ever not go with the V1? Keep in mind I went with the 7500 years ago and made that mistake.
V1 does not make a battery operated unit and you shouldn't purchase one because the weaker your batteries get, the less sensitive your unit will be. BO units are a waste of $$ IMO!
Great Lake Trophies Visor mount
8 - 10 " Invisicord
Plugs into the back of the mirror to a switched circuit
Use the search function for "Valentine" or "Escort" - - there have been literally hundreds of posts extolling the relative virtues of each over the past couple of years with no clear winner to date.
It's one of those Ford or Chevy, Cab or Chard, Suns or Lakers kind of questions that fosters endless, mindless debate without resolution.
There are points both good and bad that will make for an interesting read - - in either case, you can't go wrong.
I just bought a V1 with visor mount and invisicord. Very clean installation. Right after install we took a road trip from Indiana to Naples Fl and learned a lot about the V1. It is very good. The arrows help identify false signals such as drug stores, banks, "junk" detectors, etc. It warned me in plenty of time if I was in traffic. If you are out in front by yourself and a LEO POPS you, you don't have time to slow down......don't ask me how I know. All in all the V1 is very nice.
Bugman has a nice webpage with a V1 installation.

The Beltronics units usually are not rated up there with the V1, but the new one is the only one I'm aware of which is not detectable by police radar detector detectors, and its sensitivity is up there in the 90+%-of-the-V1's-performance range.
The invisibility to detector detectors is a big plus in my book, as I live in Virginia and commute into Washington DC (just my luck that I live/work in the only detector banning jurisdictions around here!).
If they ever come out with a stealth unit (remote sensor mounts, hidable cockpit display/controls), they'll get my $$$ in a heartbeat.

The V1 has some appeal, but as you note, it is more expensive. Besides, it really looks bulky when compared to the Escort series. I've pretty much accepted the reputation and performance of my Escort and, above all, decided not to be in so much of a hurry these days.
I have to ask: those of you who feel compelled to buy a radar detector - of any brand - why do so? Are you driving over the speed limit or just want to look like you do?
My Escort has ben useful over the years, but if only to allow me to sometimes notice if there might be a trap ahead. If I'm doing 70mph in a 60MPH zone and get picked up by an instant-on radar unit, then I guess it doesn't matter if I have a V1 or a Bel or an Escort, does it?
For the modest price of an Escort, it does just about everything I need it to do. I'm sure, from what I've read, that the V1 is great - but that doesn't make it fool-proof. If you insist on breaking the speed limit, the LEO's will catch you eventually. Don't you think?
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
