Banker here...wire is the only way for me. Many banks' cashiers checks (yes, even many of the large ones) are not "guaranteed funds".

 

If you are going to deliver it, tell him to tell his bank to have CASH on hand when you get there, no checks. Do the paperwork and sign the title when you get the cash.

 

When I sold my last bike on E-Bay for $4500 I insisted that the buyer bring CASH, and I do mean greenbacks. I told him that I would not accept a check of any kind. He brought the cash and everything was foolproof. He gave me the cash and I signed over the title. Now, a Corvette for $31, 000 is a lot more but can you insist on cash? Will the bank give him the loan in the form of cash? Cash makes everything simple.
