Default Brake squeal gone.

Today the dealer installed gm durastop ceramic brake pads front and rear on my 08 AO NPP Z51 coupe. Pads came chamfered with anti squal shims on them. Car only had 350 miles on it but squealing was very loud. tried bedding in the original pads but it did not work out. Very happy with the results.

Sounds good. I have Z51 and have heard lots of complaints about squealing but I have never had any (8,000 miles). I like the idea of reduced brake dust though.

I replaced my Z51 pads with Prostop ceramic pads from Pepboys. The fronts were $80/pair and back were $40/pair. Squeal is gone and stopping is much better than the old ones. They also come with antisqueal shims (black) attached. The part number was 731C (Front) and 732C (Back)

Had dealer install ceramics last week and turn rotors. Still squeaks, only a higher pitch. Will ask about shims, but shouldn't have to if I paid to have the problem fixed. Glad yours worked out.

I've had my vette for a little over a year. The brakes still squeal in certain weather conditions..... Luckily my borla exhaust system hides that.

Now is the time to bed in those new pads.

Wow, wonder if they'll throw in a set of drilled rotors too? Never thought I could have got them for free from the dealer. I just saw on CNET on my TIVO, they tested a 911 Carrera 4S... On a $100K car, ceramic pads are a $8100 dealer option!

That's insane. Forget the option and go out and get them yourself.

It's not ceramic pads that cost $8,100 on the Porsche. It's carbon ceramic rotors. Your money gets you exotic rotors (and compatible pads) that are less than half the weight of conventional gray iron rotors.

No squeal either. But is it true there is still brake dust, but just lighter in color so it doesn't look as bad? And if dust is left on wheels, will ruin wheels over time.
