is this problem common?
I have a 2008 with the 6 disc bose system. Prior to last night it would have an occasional failure to eject a cd. Now it just makes noises for about a minute an wont eject a disc at all. Display reads " cd mech error " This happens with commercial cd's as well as the burned ones.

i was just wondering how many others have had this problem. I am hoping that not many others have had it. I am hoping that this will be something that can be fixed once, or if it is common and may cause numerous trips to the dealer.

GM is notorious for cheap radio's. Look at the cheap CD players they put in the C5's --- it was the same exact radio's that went in all GM vehicles (like my father's 95 Taho). ---- Its not such a bad thing when you consider it keeps costs down.... but aggravating when they break.
Keep fixing it while its under warranty, but if it breaks while not under warranty, any $150 Pioneer deck is ten times better.

I don't think the Bose sounds any better than the stock 1LT system. My buddy had the Bose in his 06 vert for about 1000 miles. I still have not tried a CD in mine. All XM and iPod so far. The sound is not good but at least I didn't pay more for bad sound. No offense, I know it comes with the better option packages and there is nothing you can do about it.
I'd take it into the dealer and have them replace it.
I know for me it's just a matter of time before I gut the whole factory system anyway.

I've got an 05 ~ never a problem and to be honest, can't seem to recall reading any threads on the topic. Hopefully they'll just replace your unit and that will be the end of it.

2008, only about 2300 miles. No problems at all with my in-dash 6 CD player. Though I don't listen to it much (like the sound of the car) I have had 6 CD's loaded into it a few times and they all ejected just fine. Sounds like you got a bad one.

I got the car yesterday. I only loaded 1 cd. It played fine for maybe 20 mins, stopped, and switched to XM by itself. Now it won't play, eject, or load anything. Just sits for maybe 30 seconds, says CD MECH ERROR and goes to XM.
