You are not suppose to tint the windshield. It is illegal.

this is a link to the NYS Window tinting regulation:

http://nysdmv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...i=&p_topview=1

this is what the NYS DMV link states:

Tinted Vehicle Windows

Question
What are the laws in NYS about tinted vehicle windows?

Answer
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.

If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window.

It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.

If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center.

There's the loophole. I need tinted windows because I'm a modaholic!

Yes very Illegal..... But you can tint a porition of it. They say by law your Ft window cannot be tinted past the AS-1 mark thats not true. At least in California.

If you look in the vehicle code book under window tinting. I beleive It will say something to the affect where " If you can measure 29" from the bottom of a undepressed dr seat straight up and across you can have your tint to that point. Ie: So if you measure 29" up and do a straight line accross and it measures several inches past the AS-1 mark you're legal.

As a teenager with my show cars, and an adult with show 4x4s, I got stopped only to show the officer the vehicle code and how it states. I was not written up at all even for my tinted side windows, but when it came to Sherriffs they would get pissed and write me up for my side windows being tinted. Go figure.

I'm not saying I'm above the law or encouraging people to do this but for those who like to trick out their toys with certian things take a look at your Vehicle Code book in your state, so you will know your rights.

Heres a couple shots of mine. Limo on the sides an rear, whole windshield was done in 50%. More then likely will be having it taken off, and putting 30% on it.

And heres another from a car show last night.

This is my previous car that got totalled thanks to a old man an his r.v, but it shows you what 30% ws tint would look on a black car.

I had all my windows done at 20%, and had the windshield done with 50%. From the outside looking in, it looked pretty dark because all the other windows were done and I had a black interior. From the inside looking out, I loved it!! It made just enough difference to cut out on glare and such from streetlights and oncoming traffic. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, but I just thought the Vette pulled it off the best with the wraparound glass with basically no pillars.

What safety issues? I bought my srt4 already tinted, and i noticed a huge difference in safety while driving at night, when you have oncoming traffic especially trucks whose lights sit dead even with your eyes,or people who like to keep their high beams on the tint cuts down on the light that shines into eyes, therefor not blinding you. Id say thats one hell of a safety "improvement".

At 30% you can see out at night perfectly fine, just that when you go lower in tint, you better have some damn good headlights.

I am very happy with my tinted windshield....

It makes every car color pop, and the Black vehicles look really mean.

Okay........... Yes! It looks great. Now you have me wanting to tint my ft windshield. But as far as how dark I want to go or will go, not sure yet.

Here in calif is a especially with the Sherriffs but

It looks totally great. I'll probably go with a mild tint. Don't want to go too dark, really don't want the hastle.

Thanks for sharing the pics. If I didn't see your Vette I would have never thought of doing mine. So let me ask you, "If I get a ticket, can I just tell them I got the idea from you, and it's your fault" Ha Ha

Just kidding

For those of you that tinted the entire windshield: Did you have to put 2 pieces on or were they able to cover the windshield in 1 solid piece?

If your windshield is tinted in California your vehicle maybe towed away for being unsafe! It may look cool but I wouldnt want to drive at night with a limo tinted front windshield. Good luck with that

I love it go ahead and do it it is illegal here in maryland the only thing i say is make sure you go somewhere that is good because the windshield is laminated not tempered so if they dont know what they are doing the glass could crack from the heat gun putting it on
