this is what the NYS DMV link states:
Tinted Vehicle Windows
Question
What are the laws in NYS about tinted vehicle windows?
Answer
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.
If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window.
It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.
If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center.

If you look in the vehicle code book under window tinting. I beleive It will say something to the affect where " If you can measure 29" from the bottom of a undepressed dr seat straight up and across you can have your tint to that point. Ie: So if you measure 29" up and do a straight line accross and it measures several inches past the AS-1 mark you're legal.
As a teenager with my show cars, and an adult with show 4x4s, I got stopped only to show the officer the vehicle code and how it states. I was not written up at all even for my tinted side windows, but when it came to Sherriffs they would get pissed
and write me up for my side windows being tinted. Go figure.
I'm not saying I'm above the law or encouraging people to do this but for those who like to trick out their toys with certian things take a look at your Vehicle Code book in your state, so you will know your rights.

At 30% you can see out at night perfectly fine, just that when you go lower in tint, you better have some damn good headlights.
Yes! It looks great.
But as far as how dark I want to go or will go, not sure yet. Here in calif is a
especially with the Sherriffs but
It looks totally great.
Thanks for sharing the pics. If I didn't see your Vette I would have never thought of doing mine. So let me ask you, "If I get a ticket, can I just tell them I got the idea from you, and it's your fault" Ha Ha
