Default 2008 Build Sheets

In looking over the build sheet that I received for my new '08, I don't see a 'code' for the actual date of assembly. Is there one and I'm just not seeing it? Is there another 'means' to determine its 'birth'?

No, it isn't on the build sheet. You can PM gmautotech and ask him to run the VIN and get a VIS printout. It will show everything. Or you could post the VIN here and one of several members who can get the report will run it for you.

Here is gmautotech's profile link to PM him:

Maybe a dumb question but what exactly is a build sheet or a "VIS printout"?
I bought my '08 from an individual and all I received was the window sticker for option detals?
How can I get mine?
Thx

You can get all sorts of things along those lines from our National Corvette Museum here:

VIS is the GM Vehicle Information System. It is the be all end all data store of Corvettes. This tracks the car via VIN through it's life. You can get a printout of all options, the build date and the service and recall history of the car. Any GM dealer can provide you with this information as well as a few forum members as noted above.

Thank you.

I have been reading the forum for about a year and I agree with the people who have said you are among the most helpful and knowledgeable.

I am taking Museum Delivery next Saturday, May 17. I will try to figure out how to post pics and update the avitar shortly thereafter. Today is dedicated to cleaning out my garage.

This is my first Corvette. It is going to be a long week of waiting.

As a follow-up to my original post on build sheet information, where is there a source to 'decode' the various codes within the 'blocks' on the build sheet. Some I can figure out, others I haven't a clue. Also, for those of us who are vette fanatics, buying a laminated build sheet from the NCM is well worth the price. And, while you're at it, order the laminated window sticker as well. All of this becomes part of the DNA for your 'baby'.

Some of the codes on the build sheet don't correspond to anything that means anything to us "lay persons". Rather than post the RPO Code list here I will just refer you to this link:

Bear in mind that the build sheet codes for the most part will not correspond to the RPO codes. The build sheet is just that, it is the process sheet that the assembly plant uses to assemble the car. In many cases the codes on the build sheet are for specific harnesses and parts that the car will need to be completed. You can post the codes that you can't identify and someone here will be able to help you get it sorted out.

My pleasure. Congratulations on your first Corvette. Yes, it will be a long week for sure. I imagine that you have all ready downloaded a copy of the owners manual, if not I'd suggest you do it and spend some time this week getting familiar with the features of your new Corvette. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. Enjoy the museum delivery, it is a wonderful experience that you won't soon forget.

Thank you.

I have a couple of pictues from the Buyer's Tour that I might be able to post tomorrow (see earlier comment about cleaning out my garage today). The process seems fairly straightforward. What I will have to figure out is how I can use Adobe Photoshop Elements (the inexpensive software) to properly size the picture. I think if I post what I have, the pictures will be way too large.

If you use Photobucket.com you can elect to resize the pictures automatically when you upload them.

My 08 coupe is scheduled to be built this coming week. Will I get the build sheet when I take delivery, or do I have to order it from the NCM afterwards?

just got back from BG with mine - they laminated it right there on the spot and I walked out with same. as an '08 owner, you get a 1 year membership in the museum - also worth a discount on the build sheet and cool stuff in the gift shop - make sure you ask them about it.

have a safe and enjoyable trip - its worth the effort.

When I did the Buyer's Tour, they gave me one of the originals that were printed. I had it laminated at the museum later that day.
