At that distance, you're probably not going to outrun it. In fact, depending on the speed of the crosswind, you probably don't have a chance of outrunning it.
I've seen something like this before its its a helluva feeling to drive headlong into weather like that, that crosswind slowly picking up, and you're hoping to outrun it or at least most of it, so you won't take the full brunt of it. Fortunately, (or unfortunatley) I was in my SUV.
I could never be a truck driver. Imagine something like this was coming at night and you couldn't see it.

Interesting. My post above was drawn from my recollection of an experience when I was going through Mississippi headed to Memphis several years ago.
That photo brought back memories because I saw something very similar, too similar, during that trip.
And you're right. It will throw a scare into you.
