Default Orange LED

An orange LED located beside the passengers sun visor came on the other night. I never noticed this before.
Does anybody know what this LED is for?

To give you some light at night when it is dark in your car. It is a red light and red is used becasue it doesn't affect your night vision.

From Page 171 of 2007 Owners Manual

Reading Lamps
The inside rearview mirror includes two reading
lamps. The lamps will go on when a door is
opened. When the doors are closed, each lamp
can be turned on individually by pressing the
switch for that lamp.
An ambient light is located in the passenger sun
visor clip. This light stays on while driving to
keep the cabin from being too dark.

When I first noticed mine I thought someone was aiming a laser at me.

Thanks for info. I checked my 05 manual under "Reading Lamps" but I do not see the information regarding the led.

Thanks Again

You mean WAS for. As part of GM's continuing product improvement program (read corporate pinheads eliminating features while they raise prices to generate unsold inventory), it was important enough for GM to make a mid-year change in 2008 to delete the ambient light in the passenger sun visor clip that you are referring to.

Hopefully for the shareholders that type of corporate brain power will put a dent in the losses generated by GM's investment in sub-prime loans and bloated inventory by the 3009 model year.

The dealers are still installing it if you want it. Just have to ask for it saying the light wasn't installed at factory. They put one in mine in Feb this year with no problem

These threads crack me up. How do people drive their cars at night and not notice their center console area glowing orange? lol I noticed mine the first night I drove my old 99 Corvette years ago and obviously assumed it was nothing more than a nice ambient light.

Huh? My '08 roadster was built in mid August of 2007, and it doesn't have anything like that?? What's the actual time frame for dropping the light?
