I owned a 05 C6 Z51 coupe. I now own an 07 Z06. The difference is substantial. The wide body, the 427 under the hood & the brakes just to name a few. The only thing I miss on my 05 is the targa top. I would like the option to remove it once in awhile. If you can drive a regular C6 and not drool every time a Z06 goes by, then you'll enjoy the hell out of it. I couldn't stand it! I had to have the big dog!

I have been playing with the idea of upgrading to a Z06 but never really found it justified since I don't plan on racing it, so I'm just wondering for non-race purposes what the Z06 feels like. And yes, I'd love to have a chance to drive one but I feel bad about asking for a test drive unless I was serious about purchasing.
Don't feel bad about a test drive, it's fun. You already have a 2007, Victory Red coupe, great car, BEST COLOR, in my opinion. Don't waist your money on a new Z. Unless you want to track the Z, you can have much more fun with the $35,000+, you'll spend trading up. On a different subject, what you do for a living is, WAY COOLER than ANY car . Concentrate on your job, and forget, things/cars. If you think, I'm nuts, PM me, and I'll get you, a great/best, deal on a ZO6, or a ZO6-427, for free. NO ,

Unless you are going to be pushing your car near the end of the performance envelope, I sure as hell wouldn't spend the extra $$$$$ just to have a Z06. The standard C6 sounds as if it would satisfy your needs.

If open air motoring isn't a dealbreaker it boils down to disposable income. If you won't miss the upcharge, the Z06 is one hell of a ride.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It really gives me some food for thought and I can quite clearly see both sides of the argument now. Honestly my disposeable income situation isn't as good these days what with the stock market situation so this might be something to shelve until things improve. But I am also convinced that I need to take a Z06 for a test drive someday just to satisfy my curiosity!

The C6 was my first experience with a vette. After buying one, I knew that I would be a vette buyer for a long time and that my next one would be a Z06. I made to switch to a Z a few months ago. I've never tracked my car and I don't feel that it is too harsh or anywhere near overkill for daily use.

I drove an 07 Z06 and was very impressed. I had driven a standard C 6 prior. I was going to try to get the Z06 and was going to start the nonsense, back and forth, I will pay this etc... and I saw a LMB Z-51 packaged C-6 with a 3lt package. I drove it and was sold on the Z 51. I drive my cars pretty hard, track and street but for the extra 18 thousand or so, I wasnt convinced. I did and do like the body kit but hp wasnt that much more for that much money. I know there are a lot of differences that have been noted here but the lack of top removal and the cost didnt justify it to me. I can add a few mods and run right beside a Z06. Great car but I dont regret my decision at all. If I tracked the car all the time or lived in Germany and could get on the autobahn, I may have a different thought. I havent seen the limits of my Z 51 brakes or suspension and I bet I drive harder than most on the street. Good luck with your decision.

I think the Z06 would be a poor choice for a daily driver (like putzing around in a Ferrari to make grocery runs). Z06 is basically a street legal race car at home on the track. C6 would be better choice and easier to live with if you're not going to race.

Some people have obsessive-compulsive disorders that force them to read posts they are not interested in, and then reply with the dead horse gif animation. This usually happens after they forget to take thier meds. I think I saw a documentary on the Discovery Channel on this horrible affliction.

That's for sure. When you picked me up from the end of the runway last Saturday and shifted to second I was not prepared. I'll know better next time I get in a Z.

With current supplier or less pricing the difference is < $18K.

With the wide body kit around $6K (maybe more), a LPE or Katech motor upgrade for your LS3 is $9K, are the other upgrades not worth $3K?

To borrow a great quote from dream car garage...

"Do you need a car like this? No. Do you want a car like this? Oh yeah!"

And one of my own...

Buy what you like, enjoy what you drive!

I just went through this wednesday. Drove the o8 Z06 its F ing wicked. I have a 07 C6 LS2 6spd mn with the Z51 3LT 11,000 miles on it. It would have cost me between 30-35 thousand to up grade. With my C6 I can keep up with my buddies 08 Z06. for 35,000 less and my top comes off to boot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 08 Z06's road manners are nearly the same as my 07 F55 C6. The difference is small.

Power, however...........not close. My Z GOES!

I will not drive a C6Z of any year. As of right now, financially, I'm stuck with my current cars, including my C6 (not really a bad thing). I know if I drive a C6Z, I will want it bad and obsess over it until I get one. Don't need that frustration. I'll drive my, for now, 410rwhp 05 C6 and when the correct time comes, move on up to the Z.

I gave up trying to have the fastest car around many years ago... The Z06 does appeal to the guy( or gal) that just has to have the fastest corvette avaliable weather or not they ever actualy use the power. It will be interesting to see how these people react to the ZR1...

The Z06 also appeals to the people who like to track their cars. The Z06 will require less modifications to the brakes and suspension to push it really hard at the track. I know that I would rarely take my car to the Track so the Z06 was pointless to me. I did not like the harsh ride and the fact that I could not take the top off ( or put on the clear top) and I wanted the F55 Magnetic ride system. It was not a question of money, I just prefered the 3LT C6 with the options I wanted.

In my opinion the current LS3 C6 gives about 90-95% the performance of a a Z06. Is the extra 5-10% more performance really worth the extra $20k? You just have to be honest and ask your self if you will be happy with anything less than the most powerful and most expensive toy.... ( of course, I guess that now means the ZR1 )
