I know Talon90 knows more than I do but I received my VIN# when I called to set up my delivery date at the museum and I was at 3400 and the car was going to be produced 1 week (3800) later.
From: Muncie, Indiana ...... Can I buy an amplifier on time ... I ani't got no money now but I'll pay you before I die
The VIN is assigned about two weeks before production. If it wasn't until it was sent to the dealer they would have to remove the dash in order to affix the tag.

and this raises a very good point. I guess I was thinking in the practical sense as the dealership usually doesn't see the VIN until closer to invoice time as I recall.
I stand corrrected by two good posts but in practicality other than the reality of when it is attached and those with museum delivery I wonder how many dealerships are able to actually let the owner know.

Thanks for the kind words but it wouldn't seem so in this case.
