Default Auto Train

Has anyone brought their C6 on an auto train? If so, how was the experience?

Thanks

While I've never personally shipped a car by train, I do know GM used to ship the Corvette by rail.

They stopped because the amount of damage they were seeing was putting the cost over what it cost to ship it by truck.

I don't know if that's 100% true, but a GM insider put that out there a while ago, so it seems reasonable.

My buddy just looked at shipping a car on an open carrier from Miami to Phoenix. The best quote we received was $895.

Good luck,
Alan

Aren't the railroads now using enlosed shipping for cars because that was such a problem?

On Amtrak's website, they make mention of underbody clearance. 4" is minimum.

I saw that... in my own measuring it looks like we have just over 5 inches (not including the front lower valence). It seems to be a pretty safe for the vehicle. I read that they video and document the condition of the vehicle before it is loaded.

I have not done it in a C6, but know some that have. No issues, they seem to be very good at getting those cars on and off.

Thanks for the links to the other posts...seems like some mixed reaction...I am looking at putting a ZR1 on there...but based on what I read, think I will go back to original plan...trailer down over 2 days...

I haven't done it but I've seen some posts on this site that were very positive about the auto train.

Thanks

I have so many darn pictures that I could text you with my ZR1 being loaded on the train in Lorton VA and being unloaded in Sanford FL.

It was a great experience and I would do it again in a heart beat.

Book you tickets well in advance the tickets are so much cheaper then booking last minute.

If you want to chat about it shoot me a PM with your number

Trust me I am that A-HOLE too I got pictures of the guy driving it to it being loaded in the train. They take real good care of these cars and we are not even the most exotic ones they also transport.

I know exactly how you feel and for the money you will save WOW

Matter of fact if you do a lookup on my user to view previous posts you will see a post saying "My car is being Chilled in FL"
