Probably just the computer forcing you to go to fourth gear. This is normal for a mn6 under really low rpm's (approximately 20% throttle or less).

Check to see if the 1-4 shift light is illuminated on the DIC when this happens. Your transmission is equipped with a CAGS system which forces you to shift from 1st to 4th when you are shifting out of 1st at a fairly low RPM and low vehicle speed. Your owners' manual explains it all in more detail.

if it's your first corvette, you're not used to CAGS. read up on it in the owner's manual. works well, but is odd. you'll get used to it.

From page 3-38 of your manual:

One-to-Four Shift Light
(Manual Transmission)
When this light comes on,
you can only shift from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4)
instead of FIRST (1) to
SECOND (2).
You must complete the shift into FOURTH (4) to turn off
this feature. This helps you get the best possible fuel
economy.
After shifting to FOURTH (4), you may downshift to a
lower gear if you prefer.
Notice: Forcing the shift lever into any gear except
FOURTH (4) when the 1 TO 4 SHIFT light comes
on may damage the transmission. Shift only from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4) when the light comes on.
This light will come on when:
• The engine coolant temperature is higher than
169°F (76°C),
• the vehicle is going 15 to 19 mph (24 to 31 km/h) and
• the vehicle 21 percent throttle or less.

And if it really bothers you; for about $20 plus shipping and far less than an hour's time you can install a skip-shift delete dongle.

The light on the dash still comes on, but it makes your tranny truly a manual.

CAGS wasn't bothering me too bad until just the other day. Then it seemed like every shift was "vroooom, BOG..." I don't like bogging it down, so I got the shift gizmo from East Coast Vettes and am very happy with it.

Also it takes a little time for the trans to come up to temperature. Shifting will get easier once it is warm as well as the longer you have the car. Enjoy the ride!

Your owners manual has some really good info in it.
