I ordered an MGW shifter yesterday before I left for work. I wanted to share this with you guys. Any thoughts aside from all the good things I read about it already?
Installation (with all the existing advice from the Forum members) is pretty straight forward. Shifting is so much more precise that OEM. It's a point and click kind of experience. I am a big fan of George and MGW. Now I'm debating on getting his new "race" **** and getting rid of the OEM ****.
No more sloppy shifts! You'll want to drive just so you can shift. Tape over the ash tray door so it won't open. This will prevent scarring it when reinstalling the console. It will flip open and the shift rod will get it before you know it.

Great tip, I will be sure to do this as i would be upset if I scrape the door with the shifter.
Thanks to all others for your posts. I did have a few sloppy shifts here and there, when getting on the car. I hate that and its embarrassing when others witness it. Supposedly the '08 comes with a short throw, but I assume the MGW is still shorter? I will compare the 2 with a tape measure before and after.
I was originally gonna order the Hurst Billet Pro shifter but I see all these posts about how awesome the MGW is how can I not get it. Secondly I been following the MGW trend for quite some time and I even see an evolution in the design of it as well, the thing looks well built.
My question is do I have to remove the waterfall on my vert to take the console out? It looks like the waterfall is in the way of the console removal. I'll investigate this more before the shifter arrives here. I hope it only takes an hour or 2. I am handy with tools for the record.

Oh how I wish I read this a few days ago before I did this EXACT thing. Verry annoying. It's only noticeable in the right light to most people but I see it all the time because I know it's there...
WOW, usually each forum member starts a thread the day they install one of these shifters, now they start a thread the day they order one.
And I pioneered the start of this trend!
BTW estimated date of delivery is May 28th, 2008
I cant wait to install this thing! I spoke to George, good guy to speak with for the record. He told me it will def replace that jello feel of the stock shifter.
It is also a shorter throw than the supposedly short throw of the '08. I will try to take before and after vids so you all can see the difference. Do you think the rest of the
forum would be interested if I did that?
No need to remove the waterfall, just the console lid, two bolts inside it, two bolts by the e-brake handle. Do a search on console removal. You need to see the pictures that were posted and read the descriptions of removal to make it a trouble free install. Video would be cool.

Great point. I learned the hard way and ended up replacing my ash tray door as I couldn't stand looking at the little scratches.
The shifter is a little stiffer then OEM but throws are much shorter, positive and precise. Probably the best mod I've done so far.

The stereo shop scratched mine up when they did the install but they replaced it.
Just received my shifter 2 days ago - will be installing Wednesday (my weekend is Wed-Th - work in a casino). I am really looking forward to it as I feel the shifter is one the items scrimped on by GM to keep the cost down compared to the level of performance of these cars. The interior is another area that I will be addressing in future mods but the shifter was a priority. Good luck with your installation.
Installed mine today. LOVE it!! I had no idea it would be such a huge change! I loved the difference between stock and the B&M ripper on my f-body but I think the difference here is ever more significant. For better or worse, it's like relearning the car all over again!
