I now have to buy 10% ethanol and have noticed I'm getting 2-4 less mpg. Is this the nature of the beast or can a tune improve mileage?
06-Z51. This begs the question "am I using food to get less mileage".
Well yes, sort of. There is less energy in a given amount of ethanol than gas. But I wouldn't expect the mpg difference to be that great. Maybe I'm wrong thinking.
I have noticed a definite difference in my Tahoe (from 17.4 to 16.1 mpg after I started using the ethanol mix. To me that is a huge thing, with the price of gasoline being what it is.
I made a round trip to Dallas and back a month ago and noticed the same thing. As I went through states that had 10% ethanol my mileage started dropping. On my return to FL where I usually don't get ethanol my mpg came back up. Not worth the price difference to me.

FYI the Florida legislature has now mandated 10% ethanol in everything.
Let me see if I got this right.
Half the world is starving soooo we take food and convert it to fuel so we can get less mileage. In the meantime we have untold millions of barrels of oil we wont drill for. What a country!
