Default Skip Shift 1-4 Light

My Skip Shift 1-4 Light will light up with all the other dash indicator lights when I start the car, so I know it works. When it forces me from 1st to 4th gear, it does not light up. Anyone know why it behaves this way? Although I am putting in the CAGS Eliminator, I would still like to know why the light does not come on as designed.

Not sure what the problem is but it is suppose to light up to alert you that you are in the 1st to 4th shift zone, prior to it happening.

Don`t have an answer for you. Maybe you should let me drive it for a while to see if I can determine a resolution for it. It may take awhile though!

I would imagine that it is actually lighting up. The 1-4 shift window is actually fairly small. You could be shifting just as the light is about to light and once you start the shift sequence to 4th the light will go out. Is there any chance you are just missing it?

By the time you are making your shift to 4th, the light is off already.

That is possible. I have been watching for the light. I have never seen it, even though it forced me into 4th. I also have mixed feelings about putting CAGS Eliminator on. If this system saves me gas in very slow traffic, maybe it isn't all that bad after all?

The CAGS can be annoying at times. With the eliminator, I can still go 1-4 whenever I want. The CAGS would seem to kick at the worst time and I wasn't expecting it. The light only illuminutes is a small window of RPM/ECT/Speed.

I have found this to be true. It catches me by surprise. That would be the main reason for me install the CAGS Eliminator, which I already own.

Put the CAGS eliminator in. I have used it for my C5 and my C6. You can control the shifts any way you want, I don't believe that it saves you that much gas.

My skip shift light seems to be working as advertized. If the light comes on and you increase power above the shift light value, you will be able to shift into second. Additionally you can always shift into third even if the 1-4 shift light comes on. I checked with GM, it is "OK" no damage will be done as only the second gear is blocked. If you install the CAGS eliminator, what about the car's transmission warranty?

Not sure. I don't have it (CAGS Eliminator) myself but find I shift typically "after" the light goes out...and no issues.

Guys the light won't light up if your foot is close to over 20% or more accelerating forward, if your within the range below 20% then the skip shift light will come one letting you know your cruising in the range of 1st to 4th gear. I often go 1st to 3rd instead of 4th as it allows you to do that.

I have seen same thing but CAGS is working as I must shift to 4th as designed. believe I am just missing the light or passing through the activation window too quick but the transmission seems to know.

I tuned out CAGS completely so the only time I ever see the 1->4 light is on startup. I definitely do not miss it.

My C6 has averaged 20 mpg with or without CAGS enabled since new and that was 30k miles ago; food for thought.

You likely wear out your clutch faster but the CAGS is not going to come on from a second gear start.
