Default Gas Cap

Do not push down on the cap when turning, the cap will pull right off. I have done this on at least two occasions and got a check gas cap on the dic. The problem is you will not know it, pull up on the gas cap after filling to be sure its on. The check gas cap message will go away after the cap is on right, it will take a few starts, mine when away as I was driving.

You could have your gas cap replaced with one that works correctly.

Mine is the exact same. Figure that is the way they are made. I just turn it and tug to make sure.

Default Failed Inspection

I just got back from the New Jersey DMV to get my 05 C6 inspected.
I failed inspection due to gas cap failure which is part of the emissions test.
The test result paper I received from the inspector tells me that the dealer is responsible for all parts related to emissions by federal law for 8 years or 80,000 miles.
When I got to my dealership's part department yesterday, of course it was already closed. (I waited on line for nearly two hours at the DMV for inspection)
What do you think?
Is the dealer going to replace my gas cap for free.
I only have 12,000 miles on my C6.

I'm guessing they will.

Yes, they will replace it for free. After 36,000 miles, my gas cap failed again (4th cap now) and this is the first time it has ever ratched when turning it down. Also, they made me pay for this cap since the service advisor claimed "It was out of warranty". But based on a post here, I should go back and ask for my money back since it would cause a smog inspection failure for not operating properly.

Mine always feels really loose as I screw it on, but no actual problems in 41k miles.

I would say yes they will, especially with the paperwork from the DMV to document the problem, how can they do otherwise.

Same here but all emissions related parts are warranted for 8 years or 80,000 miles. Check the warranty book. It list all the parts that are covered. Dealers act dumb but they know better than anyone.
