Why in the world would you spend all the time and money developing and encouraging the use of the center and then go and outsource it to an outside company like Yahoo?
IMO there's no problem outsourcing it...but they should have made certain that all the information in their database was transferred over properly.
I suppose they may correct the problem...but I'm not holding my breath.

I just went on the My GM Link website and was redirected to the Yahoo My GM Link site to register. Fortunately (or not), I already have a Yahoo ID and it was easy to add my vehicle using my VIN. It did not, however, bring over the history information which, on the redirection page it indicated that the information would automatically be transferred by August 29, 2008.
I called the 1-866-694-6546 number given in a previous post and used my own suggestion of hitting the "0" key several times and, after being in queue for a couple minutes a lady named Wendy answered. I registered my complaint about the lack of notice about the change and the fact that the transfer of information was going to take ALMOST 3 MONTHS. She took all the personal information and the information about the car, said that she was going to escalate the problem and would get back to me by next Monday.
The rest of you might consider doing the same, including calling the My GM Link trouble desk at the number above. I related to "Wendy" that there were a bunch of people discussing the change on this forum and that many of them were quite angry at the inconsiderate (without warning) way this was being handled.

My concern would be with all of the info on the car and the owner (for those who used the system). GM already has the owner and service records for the VIN number, but now all of this info is going to be transfered to Yahoo and in their system as well. I just don't see the need for the info to be with Yahoo. Also, with a company like Yahoo, I would suspect there is a lot more of a chance of your info getting out for marketing purposes.

Is that the way you read this:
What's more, if you login to the new site by August 29, 2008, we'll carry over all your existing vehicle information automatically.
I read it quite differently. I read it that if you didn't log in and get the information transfered by that time then it would never be transfered. In any case, it says that if we log in it will be transfered and, as far as I can tell, no one who has logged in has seen any information transfer over and the old site is no longer accessible so you can't even get a copy from there to reenter.

Yes, it apears as if I did misread it. Upon re-reading, with what you say. What I don't see are any words on WHEN, once you register, the information WILL be transferred. I hope that the person I talked with will give me an indication regarding when to expect the transfer.
After I got logged in yesterday, I saw it carried over (automatically) the $ amount and date (but wrong year) of the service history for my wife's Pontiac Vibe only. I had to go into each service item and set what service item was done. Nothing about my 2006 C6 was there and even "adding a vehicle" and entering the VIN did nothing.
However, when I went there today, entering the VIN of my C6 caused it to recognize it was a 2006 C6. But I did have to enter all information about my C6 service history. I did not read the preceding post here until after I reentered the C6 history. It will be interesting to see if they still do it.
I'm wavering between continuing to use that website or not. I've got to give it some more thought.
I just tried it again and it worked. Yesterday, it could not find my VIN, but today it came up with no problem. It did not transfer over all the service history, though. But I think that is not set to happen until later.
The Mygm link website has signed up with yahoo. They've deleted all the service records and other info from the site. I was keeping track of all my oil changes and other vette history on the site and they've gone and deleted all the records. Kind of sucks.
If you were previously registered on the former owner site (mygmlink.com) and re-register on the new Owner Center by August 29, 2008 all vehicle information (make, model, VIN, service history) the customer previously entered should be carried over.

Yes, OK, BTDT. But, do you know WHEN the information will be carried over? The customer service person at the GM Link help number gave me the verbal deer in the headlights act.
I guess they got around to me because I was able to find my car by VIN and enter the site. Site is just a big ad from GM with a little section for your car. Wow, thanks for nothing GM!
Although I had added my 2nd car to the site, they finally added it for me. So now it's out there twice. I'm waiting to see if they also add the service records. They added my wife's service records, but they were incomplete.

In other words, the new site isn't ready to use and the old one is no longer available and no one knows if or when they will find some time to fix it.
Can anyone explain to me what is so hard about transferring data? Why do we even need to log on to get it transfered? Transfer everything! If they want to purge old data from people who don't use it any more, just date the access and in a year or so purge old data.

I got the same email on Monday and then on Tuesday I got a follow up asking me for my VIN. On Thursday I was able to find my car and access the site. Hopefully the same will happen for you.

Did you have service information transfered? When this thread started they couldn't even identify a vehicle from a VIN. Sometime earlier this week that part started working for some vehicles but not others. In either case, no previous service history was transfered. At this point I have the C6 in the new system with no service history and my other car is still "We were unable to find your VIN record".
The question remains, how hard can it be to transfer computer records from one system to another and get it right before releasing it to the world?
