Default Program to open gated apartment?

Can I program my homelink (buttons on visor) to open the gates at my apartment? If so, how? I have a clicker just don't like pulling it out every time I need to get in and out. Thanks!

It depends on how lucky you are. Programing the Lear is not user friendly and in more cases than not it does not work. My 05 with the old system opened the gates at both houses and both garage doors. My 08 with GM's new improved system only works on one of the four.

.....
Edit I just looked up your profile and you have an 05 so I guess you are lucky. It should work.

1) press and hold buttons 1 & 3 on the visor (the 2 outer buttons) until the light on the homelink starts flashing (this will clear all codes stored for the three buttons)

2) press and hold button 1 AND the button on your remote for the gate (I would have the remote for the gate held up to the homelink unit when you do this)

3) Keep holding button 1 and your gate remote button down until the light on the homelink unit starts flashing fast.

4) test the unit out next to the gate.

You will run into trouble if:

1) the gate uses a rolling code (this will mean you would have to press the learning button on the gate's receiver)

2) your gate remote only throws a signal for a second or two then shuts off even with the button pressed (the homelink needs like 5 seconds to catch the code when programing)

3) the gate uses a freq. that is not picked up by homelink.

If you need further info, check out www.homelink.com and follow the programing link or their 800 number for assistance.

Just another note, when you hold the 1 and 3 buttons down you are erasing the codes from all 3 buttons so you will need to re program your garage remote. If you have a garage there.
