The courtesy light that is under the hood of my 05 has not worked since I purchased the car a few months ago. I pulled the bulb and put a voltmeter on the terminals to see if the bulb was bad or something else. I never could get a 12V reading. Is there a gravity switch in this fixture or a plunger-type switch to sense when the hood is open/closed? Should the light remain on anytime that the hood is open or does it time out? Is the light on the same fuse as the other courtesy lights in the interior of the car? Just need a little help on how the thing is supposed to work so that I can troubleshoot it better.

Check to make sure it is even connected. In the early days, many people disconnected the underhood light in a misguided attempt to fix the dreaded Dead Battery Syndrome (DBS). Check the inline connector for the light first... it is down by the passenger side of the radiator.
FYI- it is a angle-sensing type switch within the light itself that turns the light on and off as the hood is raised/lowered.

with Kent who beat me to the punch and saved me a lot of typing
I agree with Kent. You will find a good majority of these lights not even connected. As Kent said the harness is located on the vertical portion of the passenger side radiator shroud. Located directly below the hood light just look down and you will see the connector coming out of the bottom of the hood and you should see the other side of that connector attached to the radiator shroud.

Thanks for the quick response. I will check the connector first.
So, is the angle-sensor part of the light "fixture" or is it a part of the light bulb itself?
