When i tried to start my '06 this morning, my battery was dead. the guages came on, but my volts were around 8, so when i pushed the start button, the car just clicked. After jumping the car I went to autozone to have the battery and Alt tested, and they said that they were both fine?? has this happened to anyone else. the car only sat for 1 day. i drove it all day saturday and it was fine. this also happened about 3 weeks ago. thats twice in 1 month???
I would check a few things before I blamed a 1 -2 year old battery (I have a 6 yo battery in my BMW and it is doing fine). Is there a Cell Phone charger plugged in? What about the lights on the mirror - are they on?
I tend to agree. That would be where I would start. The bad thing about the OEM batteries is that they are not very resilient. The worse thing about OEM batteries is when they go, they go. Not much in the way of advanced warning.
What's happening is the battery is failing internally and once you jump start it the alternator puts enough charge in the battery to pass a load test but as soon as there is any draw on the battery, the charge is gone and it needs a jump start.
If you plan on having your dealer replace it under warranty, you will need to let the car sit in their lot for about 5 to 10 minutes with the lights and ignition on, but the engine off. This will put enough of a drain on the battery to cause the battery to fail the load test and they will have the proof they need to replace then battery under the 3/36 warranty.
make sure you don't leave it in the accesory mode . I did and guess what , yea dead battery
Accessory mode should shut itself off after about 20 minutes or so if left unattended. I know when I wash the car and leave it in acc mode to listen to the radio, it shuts off by itself after about 20 minutes and I have to hit the bottom of the start button again to get the radio to come back on. Mine's a 2005 A4 Coupe BTW.
