Default DRL Problem

I have an early build 2005 C6 that is 5 months out of warranty. I just had my second DRL quit working. I havent checked to see if it is blown yet but was told that there may be a TSB about this. There was something mentioned about excessive heat. I dont drive the car much or maybe I would have had this problem happen more.

Has anyone had this problem and come up? If so, what was the fix?

Since it is out of warranty, I guess that I am on my own nickel now!

Thanks in advance: flag:

There's a TSB for this. The wiring harness that connects to the DRL's/turn signals needs to be replaced. Check with your dealer on this. It may still be covered since it's a safety related issue.

Just replace the bulb and before putting the new one in place fill the socket with dielectric grease. It helps to dissipate the heat.

Take it to the dealer. If it is a TSB they will fix it.

A lot of times we over look a simple repair (like the light bulb burning out). If that doesn't work, then go to the next step.

Also, just because there is a TSB that might relate here, the TSB in this case does not extend the warranty. I only point this out because if you go into the dealer demanding that they take care of this under the TSB, they might tell you to pound sand. Where if you go in and ask nicely about it, they may help out under a "customer satisfaction" or "goodwill" route.

You may want to check the fuse and bulbs first. The bulletin was to replace the bulbs with a lower heat bulb and also check the plastic bulb sockets for heat distortion damage. Specifficaly, replace the bulb with a 5702*KA Phillips bulb, P/N*15233607.

It the bulb sockets were distorted, there is a part number for a new socket P/N 19120497. You just cut off the damaged socket and splice in the new socket. Be sure to use the cooler bulbs. The bulletin number is #05-08-42-009.
